Considering that all the focus has been on the high-quality anime adaptation over the last year or so, it can be easy to forget that a My Hero Academia live-action movie was actually officially announced back in 2018. While it's definitely exciting to imagine how Deku and the other members of Class 1-A would look in real life, there has been barely any news related to the movie for quite some time, to the point where many fans started to become skeptical about whether it would even happen at all, especially considering that anime live-action adaptations fading into obscurity isn't exactly anything new.

Thankfully, after years of waiting for new info to be released, My Hero Academia fans have finally been given a promising update on how the movie is coming along, and it's fair to say that it's shaping up to be pretty incredible. Let's take a deep dive into the latest developments of the live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia to get a clearer idea of what it will look like, and when it might be officially released to the public.

My Hero Academia's Live-Action Movie Has A New Screenwriter

With A Talented New Staff Member Joining The Team, The Ball Can Finally Start Rolling

  • Jason Fuchs has been brought on board as screenwriter
  • He has worked on some extremely popular movies in the last few years
  • The talented screenwriter has a knack for creating fun and inspirational stories

It has recently been confirmed that a brand-new screenwriter has been brought on board to set out the story for the latest My Hero Academia movie, and it's someone who many film enthusiasts will be very familiar with. Jason Fuchs is one of the most well-known screenwriters in recent history, having worked on popular movies including Pan, Wonder Woman, Argylle, and even the Minecraft Movie, which would quickly become a box office smash hit only a few days after it released in theaters.

Clearly, the man has a knack for creating stories which are fun and exciting thanks to the childlike enthusiasm that he is able to insert into the narrative, which honestly makes him a perfect fit for a series like My Hero Academia. Anyone who has watched the anime or read the manga will know that while this series can tackle some serious themes every now and again, it's very much designed to be an inspirational story which fans of all ages can dive into and enjoy, so having Jason in the driver's seat assures fans that the tone for the new movie won't straight too far from the original source material.

Jason Fuchs isn't the only well-known staff member working on this exciting new project though, as the live-action movie also has Shinsuke Sato as the director. Shinsuke has been a lot more involved with anime-based movies than Jason has, with just a few examples of his recent works being the Bleach and Death Note live action movies. As a result, there's no doubt that he will be able to give the movie an anime-like aesthetic just like he managed to do with those previous examples.

When Will The New Movie Be Released?

Once The Anime Ends, All Eyes Will Be On This New Project

  • Once the anime is over, more details will be revealed
  • There's a big chance more will be shown at Jump Festa

As of right now, fans are still eager to watch the final season of the My Hero Academia anime, which will wrap up the final war between the heroes and villains once and for all. Though the manga may have ended a little while ago now, anime fans have long been awaiting to witness the conclusion to the immensely popular story, so it only makes sense that any more details about the live-action movie will be released once Season 8 is officially over.

However, if there was any time to give the fans more information about the project, it would have to be at Jump Festa, which will take place in December. Though Shonen Jump have remained pretty tight-lipped about what is actually going to be announced at this extravagant event, it has been confirmed that My Hero Academia will be represented in one form or another, and what better way to continue the momentum than by unveiling some intriguing details about the movie, whether it be the actors, a trailer sneak-peek, or if they want to go really big, even an official release date.

There's already a lot of discussion about what the movie could actually be about, and realistically, there are two directions that it could go. Similar to the Bleach live-action movie, the project could focus on a small portion of the main story rather than trying to chronicle Deku's journey from beginning to end. On the other hand, if Jason Fuchs was feeling a little experimental, he could edit the original story here and there to fit it all into one full-length film that would show Deku's adventure from wimpy school boy to Japan's greatest hero. Either way, this is definitely an exciting update for a project that has been left dormant for so many years, but finally, it feels as though the ball has started rolling.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
