There's Already a Black Myth: Wukong Copycat Game

Wukong: Legacy Reborn is reportedly a new Black Myth: Wukong copycat, sharing not only a comparable title but also many striking similarities with the acclaimed Chinese game. Game Science's 2024 RPG, Black Myth: Wukong, has been one of the most successful releases in recent years, gaining millions of players shortly after its highly anticipated launch.

Unfortunately, success often attracts imitators and scammersm with some indie developers making it common practice to copy successful games, likely hoping to trick a portion of the fanbase for profit. A recent example is the surge of Schedule 1 copycat games on the PlayStation Store, which has left thousands of gamers disappointed.

Wukong: Legacy Reborn Mistaken for Black Myth: Wukong DLC

Seeing the PS Store page for Wukong: Legacy Reborn, some fans hoped it might be a surprise DLC for Black Myth: Wukong. Unfortunately, the game has no connection to Game Science and is being published by an indie developer named Md Adnan Hossain. Interestingly, Wukong: Legacy Reborn hasn't been released yet and is planned for a 2027 launch. Despite this, the few screenshots available on the PS Store have convinced many that it is shaping up to be a Black Myth: Wukong imitator.

According to the game's official description, Legacy Reborn is an action RPG made with Unreal Engine 5, aiming to blend Eastern mythology with fast-paced combat for a "unique" experience. As expected, the protagonist appears to be the legendary Wukong, who was also the main character in Game Science's 2024 RPG. While the character is mythological and cannot be copyrighted, many fans find Wukong: Legacy Reborn's design strikingly similar to Black Myth: Wukong's art style, with some even suspecting potential copyright infringement.

The publisher, Md Adnan Hossain, has reportedly released several other low-quality copycat titles, mimicking popular games like TCG Card Shop Simulator and Bodycam. This has prompted many to warn players about a potential scam with the upcoming Wukong-like game. Critics have also targeted the PlayStation Store, arguing that Sony is failing to effectively screen out these types of games.

It remains to be seen whether the PS Store will tighten its policies against low-quality and AI-generated games that simply imitate major releases. Some gamers have suggested adding a report button to flag potential scams and misleading products, but that doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon. In the meantime, games like Wukong: Legacy Reborn, which can easily mislead customers, continue to appear on the platform.
