The Black Wind King is one of the most challenging bosses in Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong. Not long after you take down Whiteclad Noble, you’ll run into this powerful Yaoguai King who rules over Black Wind Mountain. Despite his title, he doesn't necessarily look like a traditional king, but rather a muscular figure with a monk-like appearance.
One look at the Black Wind King will make you realize that this boss is trouble and taking him down won’t be easy. The self-imposed King of the Black Wind Mountain has a lot of powerful attacks and supernatural tricks up his sleeve, but defeating him is the only way to get a new spell and progress further in the game. Here’s how you can beat the Black Wind King in Black Myth: Wukong.
Black Myth: Wukong - All Purple Talismans Locations
The Destined One will have a hard time locating some of the purple talismans as they are hidden in Black Myth: Wukong.
How To Prepare For The Black Wind King Boss Fight in Black Myth: Wukong
The Black Wind King is a mandatory boss in Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong. You can find him in the Black Wind Cave, close to the Cave Interior Keeper's Shrine – an area you’ll naturally reach as you progress through Chapter 1. Make sure to interact with the Shrine, as it’s a convenient respawn point if you die in this boss fight.
Since the Black Wind King fight follows closely after the Whiteclad Noble in Black Myth: Wukong, there is not a lot of preparation to do beforehand. You’ll most likely have Guangzhi’s
Red Tides transformation spell and a couple of Spirits that you can use in battle. However, if you want to increase your chances of winning against the Black Wind King, you can do the following:
Defeat Elder Jinchi
Before fighting the Black Wind King, you should consider taking down an optional boss, Elder Jinchi. You can unlock this secret boss by ringing all three bells scattered around the map in Chapter 1. Defeating Elder Jinchi rewards you with the
Fireproof Mantle, a vessel that passively regenerates Focus, and the
Guanyin's Prayer Beads, an Arms Equipment that boosts your Defense by 10.
When equipped, both of these can be helpful during the fight with the Black Wind King. Focus is essential for performing powerful attack combos, while the
Guanyin's Prayer Beads make you more resistant to the King’s attacks.
Upgrade Your Gear
Another thing you can do is upgrade your gear before your fight with the Black Wind King. Beating Elder Jinchi also gives you the crafting recipe for the Bronze Armor set. You can craft a few pieces of this set using
Yarn,
Silk, and
Will to get an additional advantage in your boss fight.
Equipping two pieces of the Bronze set will deal extra damage to the boss when you
Immobilize him, whereas wearing four pieces reduces the Cooldown time for Immobilize Spell.
Additionally, you get the
Jade Fang by defeating the Whiteclad Noble, which you can use to craft the Twin Serpents staff. This staff moderately increases damage inflicted by Light Attack combo finishers.
How To Beat the Black Wind King In Black Myth: Wukong
The Black Wind King begins the fight with a powerful jumping spear thrust, where he pauses momentarily in the air before lunging forward, infusing his spear with the Black Wind and slamming it into the ground. Whenever he infuses his spear with the Black Wind, he’ll likely follow up with three powerful slashes. Wait until the third attack lands before striking back, and use your Spirit Attack when you have a clear opportunity.
Black Myth: Wukong - What is Might?
For those unsure about what Might is in Black Myth: Wukong, this guide details how it works with transformations and how it can be improved.
Despite his size, the Black Wind King is surprisingly fast and can quickly close the distance between you and him. Use the
Immobilize spell to temporarily stun him, which gives you an opening to land some early hits and build Focus Points.
The King’s signature move is the Black Wind form attack, where he turns into black mist and moves around the arena. He’ll then explode and dash towards you, following up with an AoE blast. To avoid the initial blast, maintain distance and be prepared to dodge quickly. It’s a bit tricky, but if you use the
Immobilize right before he transforms – you can prevent the attack altogether.
If you manage to
Immobilize the Black Wing King, you’ll have a small opening to attack and get a good chunk of damage. Use this time to transform with the
Red Tides Spell and land a few decent hits on the King.
Be careful when attacking the Black Wind King head-on, as he can take a quick swig from his Gourd and unleash a powerful fire breath attack.
Once the Black Wind King’s health falls below 25%, he’ll become more aggressive and start using his disappearing trick more frequently. He’ll often reappear ready to attack, so stay vigilant and dodge his attacks. Don’t expect a long window to try attack combos, and using the Immobilize spell is also not a wise move at this point. The trick is to play it safe, regain your stamina, and wait for the right moment to attack and eliminate him.
Black Wind King Boss Fight Rewards
For defeating the Black Wind King, you’ll be rewarded with 1049 XP, around 700
Will, and three
Yarn. Additionally, you’ll unlock a new
Cloud Step Spell. This is an Alteration spell that allows you to temporarily disappear into a mist, much like the Black Wind King, and leave a decoy in your place. Upon reappearing from the mist, you can unleash an Unveiling Strike, a powerful attack that catches enemies off guard.
