The
Wandering Wight is one of the first optional bosses you’ll encounter in Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong. This creature has a disproportionately large head and is known for its aggressive nature and powerful attacks. Despite being an early-game boss, the Wandering Wight isn't easy to take down and truly tests your combat skills.
While the Wight is an optional boss, you’ll definitely want to take him on and defeat him to get his spirit for transformation. This unique ability will make the rest of your journey in Black Myth: Wukong a little easier. Here’s how you can prepare for your fight with the Wandering Wight and beat it.

How To Prepare For The Wandering Wight’s Boss Fight in Black Myth: Wukong
Before you take on the Wandering Wight, you need to make sure you’re properly geared up. You won’t have a lot of options early on, but there are a few things you can do to give yourself a better chance against the Wight.
Reach Level 10 to 15
Even though it’s possible to beat the Wandering Wight the first time you face it, it’s highly recommended to wait until you’ve reached at least level 10 to 15. This will give you a significant advantage in terms of health, damage output, and overall survivability.
Invest in Your Stats
As you level up, you can earn Sparks, which can be spent in the Self-Advance tab of the menu to improve your health and stamina. You can also unlock new abilities to boost your character’s strength and make it harder for the Wandering Wight to hit you.
Make sure to upgrade your basic stance attacks to deal more damage to the boss. Investing points in the
Immobilize ability in the Self-Advance tab can also enhance the spell’s effectiveness, helping you defeat the Wight easily.
Unlock the Red Tides Spell
If you try to fight the Wandering Wight early on, you should first consider defeating an easier boss nearby called Guangzhi in Black Myth: Wukong. This optional Yaoguai Chief drops the
Red Tides Transformation Spell, which can be a game-changer in your battle with the Wight.
This spell lets you transform into Guangzhi temporarily and prevents you from taking direct damage. The Guangzhi Transformation also lets you deal fire damage to enemies — which the Wight is extremely susceptible to.
How To Beat The Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong
Now that you’re ready to take down the Wandering Wight, head to the Forest of Wolves in the Black Wind Mountain. Here, you’ll find the Wight walking back and forth in front of the tunnel entrance close to the ‘Outside the Forest’ rest shrine.
Since the Wight keeps patrolling around the clearing, you can sneak up behind him and unleash a heavy Smash attack to start the fight strongly. While he’s still registering your presence, you can hit him with a Focus Point attack to stagger him for several seconds. This provides a great opportunity to follow up with a light attack combo, which opens up room for another Focus Point.
The Wandering Wight has a pretty high HP and can also deal significant damage up close and at a distance. The Wight’s primary attacks include powerful stomps, sweeping spins, and a fast leaping stomp that can easily one-shot you unless you dodge them at the right moment. He keeps you guessing with his varying attack patterns, from basic two-foot stomps to three-stomp combos, mixed with arm swings, or jump kicks followed by a jumping stomp.
Black Myth: Wukong - Elder Jinchi Guide (How To Reach & Beat)
Most players might have completely missed this hidden boss in Black Myth: Wukong.
The Wight’s most devastating attacks are his earthquake slam and palm blast. If you see him wave his hands and hold one in the air, get ready to dodge or retreat quickly, as he will slam his fist into the ground, triggering a powerful AOE explosion. Or he’ll shoot a beam from his hand that can drain half of your HP.
Defeating the Wight is all about recognizing its attack patterns and reacting accordingly. Once you learn the tells for his attacks, you can easily dodge them and find openings to counterattack. When you notice the Wight preparing for a powerful area attack, casting the Immobilize Spell can be a strategic move. This spell will freeze the Wight in place, allowing you to unleash a light attack combo and stop him from completing his attacks. You can also exploit the Wight’s staggered state to charge heavy strikes that can knock him to the ground, giving you an open window to deal more damage before he can recover.
Keep an eye on your stamina levels during the fight. When your stamina is low, retreat to a safe distance and recharge. Take advantage of moments when you’re out of the Wight’s range to replenish your health.
Wandering Wight Rewards in Black Myth: Wukong
For beating the Wandering Wight, you’ll earn around 1049 XP, which is more than enough to level up and get another Spark for self-advancement. Besides this, you’ll get the
Cat's Eye Beads Curio, Blood of the Iron Bull crafting material, three
Yarn, and a decent amount of Will.
The Wight will also leave behind his spirit, which looks like a purple glowing wisp. To use the Wandering Wight Spirit, you must first meet the Ancient Master in the Bamboo Grove and upgrade your Gourd in Black Myth: Wukong. If you haven't done so yet, don't worry; the Spirit will appear in your Shrine menu once you've completed the Gourd upgrade.
