When you first start playing Black Myth: Wukong, you only have access to a limited number of skills, namely Foundation, Staff Stances, and Mysticism. Within the Foundation skill tree, you’ll find Martial Arts, a set of skills that mainly focuses on enhancing the Destined One’s combat abilities. You can unlock these skills by spending Sparks in this tree.
One of the first Martial Arts abilities you’ll unlock is Punishing Downpour. Punishing Downpour is a must-have skill for players who prefer a light attack-focused playstyle and want to amplify their light attack combos.

Punishing Downpour is a unique Foundation skill in Black Myth: Wukong. It allows you to unleash a powerful, high-damage Light Attack Finisher after landing six consecutive light attacks on an enemy.
Think of Punishing Downpour as a combo finisher that can deal extra AoE damage to an enemy and weaken them for follow-up attacks. It works similarly to a charged Heavy Attack but doesn’t require Focus Points to execute it.
The key to activating Punishing Downpour is to chain together six light attacks on your target without breaking the combo. Once you've landed the sixth light attack, the Punishing Downpour skill will be executed, thereby staggering or even knocking out your opponents.
If you don’t have enough Sparks to unlock Punishing Downpour, consider grinding for XP and leveling up. You get one Spark each time you level up.
Best Build For Punishing Downpour in Black Myth: Wukong
As mentioned above, Punishing Downpour is an essential skill for light attack-focused builds. It can be combined with other skills, like Composure, to create a devastating combo. Composure is a Stamina-based Foundation skill that allows you to dodge during a light attack combo without breaking it.
The Kang-Jin Staff has a unique effect that can convert Punishing Downpour’s AoE damage into Thunder damage. This can make Punishing Downpour even more powerful, especially in the mid-game when you encounter more challenging foes. You can pair this with the Loongscale armor set to further increase the Thunder damage.
You can unlock the Kang-Jin Staff and Loongscale armor set by defeating the Kang-Jin Loong and Kang-Jing-Star bosses respectively in Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong.
If you think Punishing Downpour doesn’t fit in with your playstyle, you can use the Reignite The Sparks feature to respec your build. This allows you to redistribute your Sparks at any time and change your build as you progress.
