Game Science is releasing a new update for Black Myth: Wukong, but the patch is so large on the PlayStation 5 that gamers may need to delete and reinstall the game to gain access to it. While it’s nice to see the developers continuing to support Black Myth: Wukong, this could be unfortunate for PS5 owners who have limited storage space remaining.

Black Myth: Wukong was released for PS5 and PC in 2024, and it quickly became a major hit. In the action-packed Soulslike, players control the Destined One, a character inspired by the mythical Sun Wukong from the Journey to the West novel. The title has received quite a few updates since its release, and Black Myth: Wukong was also released for Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025.

There's Already a Black Myth: Wukong Copycat Game

Fans of the Chinese RPG Black Myth: Wukong should be aware of a potential copycat game that closely resembles Game Science's acclaimed title.

The newest Black Myth: Wukong patch will need around 93.5 GB of free storage space to be installed on a PS5 due to “differences in file storage methods.” With the base game occupying around 130 GB of storage space, some players may need to delete and reinstall Black Myth: Wukong if they want access to the improved version of the title, despite not many huge changes being made to the overall experience. The patch adds the Czech language to the game, fixes some bugs, improves the combat experience against the Yaoguai King “Giant Shigandang” boss, and more. Performance will be improved on all platforms, allowing integrated AMD FSR4 to be used on PC, making loading speed on the PS5 faster, improving overall memory usage, and more. The update will be “gradually released” across all platforms starting on October 13, so all gamers should have access to it soon.

Overall, it’s a much larger update than the patch Black Myth: Wukong received in September. The previous update only fixed a handful of bugs and improved one issue on the Xbox Series X/S.

Black Myth: Wukong was a huge hit, selling over 25 million copies since its release. Hopefully, Game Science will continue to release helpful updates, making the experience smoother for gamers who have not tried the popular Soulslike or want to come back to it.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like Black Myth: Wukong will get any major expansions, as Game Science has recently announced a sequel called Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The upcoming game will be based on the Chinese myth of Zhong Kui, a god who wanders between hell and Earth to capture ghosts, and is currently in early development.

What to Know Before Patch Installation

Due to the platform's update mechanism, your computer will need to reserve a certain amount of free disk space (not necessarily on the same disk if you are a Steam user) for temporary storage of the update files. (PC)

If you have installed any mods in the game, installing the patch may cause compatibility issues. This could prevent you from launching the game, loading your saved games, or triggering error pop-ups during gameplay. We recommend uninstalling the installed mods and verifying the integrity of the game files before restarting the game. (PC)

The performance optimization this time involves a considerable number of underlying changes, which results in a relatively larger patch size. If the update fails due to insufficient storage or other reasons, please try redownloading the game. (PS5)

If you encounter unusually large update sizes during patch installation, or if the game gets stuck, crashes, or fails to start after installation, please refer to the Installation/Patch FAQ on our official website.

This update may require shader recompilation. If you experience crashes during shader compilation, please try restarting the game until the compilation is complete or skip shader compilation.
