Black Myth: Wukong has reportedly collected a whopping USD 700-800 million in revenue, as the action RPG title continues to perform exceptionally well. Developed by Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong is the newest sensation in gaming that has broken multiple records since coming out.
One of the most highly anticipated games in recent years, Black Myth: Wukong, was finally released on August 20 to an incredible fan reception. Making the most of that momentum, it quickly reached enough concurrent players to become the most-played single-player game on Steam ever. Adding to its achievements, the RPG also sold more than 10 million copies within three days of its arrival. Most recently, sources have released updated sales figures for the game, giving an insight into its huge revenue.
As mentioned in a Bloomberg report, Black Myth: Wukong has raked in USD 700 million "so far," after selling over 18 million units in just two weeks since launch. This is already 10 times the investment of USD 70 million that was made into the development of the game over a period of six years. Analyst Daniel Ahmad, who is the original source for these revenue estimates, later shared that the quoted numbers were from August 30 and that the Journey to the West-inspired game has made even more money since then. In a tweet dated September 5, he shared that the revenue has raced to around a staggering USD 800 million.
Black Myth: Wukong's Revenue Continues to Hit New Milestones
Built on a hefty budget, Black Myth: Wukong is looking to bring in a hefty sales profit, too. This is according to Daniel Wu of Hero Games, the biggest investor in Game Science, who shared the expected lifetime sales and future content plans for the action title with Bloomberg. The source states that Wu predicted the Chinese mythology-based game to hit 30 million sales over its lifetime, boosted by "an expansion to come." This partially confirms a recent leak that said the Black Myth: Wukong developer is planning to release DLC content.
While on one hand, PC and PS5 players who are currently immersed in the world created by Game Science can now turn their attention towards the DLC, on the other hand, Xbox owners still await Black Myth: Wukong's launch on the console. With the developer and Xbox parent Microsoft stating their own different reasons for the delay, there are talks of a secret PS5 exclusivity deal playing a role in this matter. As the success of Black Myth: Wukong continues, Xbox fans would hope the game is also inching closer toward landing on the platform. However, the time remaining before the Destined One finally arrives on Xbox is anyone's guess right now.
