A new Black Myth: Wukong update is now live, addressing several frustrating issues impacting Xbox players. Following the action-adventure title's highly anticipated release on Microsoft's platform, many players have complained about its subpar visuals on the Xbox Series X, but the newest Black Myth: Wukong patch may improve how the game looks quite drastically.
Following its release for PC and PlayStation 5 in August 2024, Chinese studio Game Science found instant success with Black Myth: Wukong, with the game selling a staggering 20 million units in its first month. The title was listed as coming to Xbox shortly after its initial launch, but this proved to be more of a challenge than the developers expected, with the studio taking an entire year to optimize the game for Microsoft consoles. While the technical limitations of the Series S were said to be the biggest hurdle, Black Myth: Wukong was finally released for Xbox on August 20, 2025, inviting even more eager players to try the action RPG for themselves. As with other ports, however, this wasn't without its hiccups.
Black Myth: The Real Inspiration Behind Zhong Kui Explained
Game Science is creating a new installment in the Black Myth series centered around Zhong Kui, a real-world mythological figure from Chinese history.
A new patch for Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox has been released, addressing several major complaints and bringing with it some much-needed fixes and improvements. According to Game Science, graphics will no longer appear blurry on Xbox Series X, with the studio claiming that global illumination ghosting for both the game's Balance and Quality modes was causing the ongoing issue. An issue causing certain bosses in Mount Huaguo to sink when the player moved away from them has also been fixed, along with several side quests becoming unprogressable after ending dialogue improperly. Those seeking to snag the dozens of Black Myth: Wukong achievements on Xbox should also have less of an issue now, as a number of errors and crashes have been addressed. Unfortunately, the patch notes only mention the Series X.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 in August, Game Science shocked fans with the reveal of Black Myth: Zhong Kui. While little is currently known about the Black Myth: Wukong sequel, including a release window, the official reveal trailer showed off the titular main character and even more impressive visuals from the Chinese studio. Many are hoping that Zhong Kui will boast new abilities, though only time will tell.
In a recent interview, Game Science CEO Feng Ji stated that Sun Wukong's story isn't quite over. The studio has plans to return to Black Myth: Wukong in the future, though whether this indicates a new game or expansion is on the way remains unclear.
