Summary
- Black Myth: Wukong sold over 20 million units and plans for an Xbox port are in motion.
- ESRB listing may hint at an imminent Xbox release for Black Myth: Wukong.
- Fans may expect DLC and a sequel to Black Myth: Wukong in the future.
It looks like the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong may be dropping sooner rather than later. Black Myth: Wukong released earlier this year to mostly positive reviews and incredible commercial success. Blowing away all expectations, Black Myth: Wukong has sold over 20 million units and is one of the fastest-selling video games of all time. What makes this especially impressive is that Black Myth: Wukong is currently only available on two platforms.
At launch, Black Myth: Wukong released for PC and PlayStation 5. A Black Myth: Wukong Xbox port has long been planned, but has yet to materialize. Reports differ on exactly why Black Myth: Wukong hasn't released for Xbox yet. Some say that it was due to technical issues involving the Xbox Series S, while others suggest that some kind of deal was made to secure timed-exclusivity for PS5, though the latter theory has been debunked by reliable insiders. Whatever the case may be, it seems Xbox gamers may soon have the chance to play Black Myth: Wukong for themselves.
Black Myth: Wukong Dev Reportedly Exceeds $1 Billion in Revenue on Steam
Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science exceeds $1 billion in revenue on Steam, making it one of the most profitable game companies in 2024.
The ESRB listing for Black Myth: Wukong lists the Xbox version of the game, suggesting that the port is coming soon. It's entirely possible that this rating is simply being proactive and fans will have to wait a lot longer for Black Myth: Wukong to come to Xbox, but it's still an encouraging sign.
Black Myth: Wukong Xbox Version Gets ESRB Rating
If Black Myth: Wukong is coming to Xbox soon, maybe it will be a shadow drop at The Game Awards 2024. If that happens, its Xbox release would mirror that of Baldur's Gate 3. As some may recall, Baldur's Gate 3 skipped Xbox at first, only to be shadow dropped for the platform at The Game Awards. It will be interesting to see if lightning strikes twice. Of course, it's entirely possible that Black Myth: Wukong won't come to Xbox until 2025, and so fans on the platform should brace themselves for that possibility.
Black Myth: Wukong fans on all platforms should have plenty to look forward to in the months and years ahead. Reports indicate that Black Myth: Wukong DLC is on the way, with the first expansion expected to drop as early as January 2025. A second expansion is believed to be in the works as well, and considering how much the game has sold, a Black Myth sequel is an inevitability.
