Call of Duty Black Ops 3 brings nine new characters into the hectic action of its online multiplayer. Within each of these nine Specialists in Call of Duty Black Ops, 3 is a unique set of powers that can only be activated by that specific character, begging the question of who is the best Specialist in Black Ops 3?

Each Specialist has a unique ability and weapon to bring into battle, which players will need to fill their Specialist meter to utilize this powerful method of attack. However, some Specialists are better than others, and it’s worth knowing which one will help the player get a victory.

9 Nomad

nomad specialist in black ops 3

At level 28, players will have the opportunity to unlock Nomad, a Specialist that utilizes his expertise in survival to go off-grid and bring his combat expertise in jungle warfare to the battlefield. Nomad is best used by players that don’t like moving around much, as his Special Ability has him respawn on his position of death thanks to Rejack.

As for Nomad’s special weapon, he’s given a weapon called H.I.V.E., which fires traps in the form of pods, which when detonated upon enemy detection, will unleash nano drones that swarm and eat at enemy health. It’s a slow-damage weapon that won’t see the instant death of other Specialist weapons.

8 Prophet

prophet specialist in black ops 3

The evolution of machines is an intrigue to Prophet, and it certainly shows in his preferred choice of weaponry. Prophet has a Special Ability called Glitch, which will see him teleport backward to a previous location. It’s a good Special Ability to players that are being chased, and want to instead become the chaser. However, all damage effects remain intact, so players that have been shot won’t magically be fully healed.

As for Prophet’s Special Weapon, he is given the Tempest. With this weapon, players can use a charge-shot device that fires a bolt of electricity. This weapon acts like the Wunderwaffe DG-2 from Call of Duty Zombies, as it will instantly kill enemies and chain them with an electrical current, a decent choice for Level 1.

7 Outrider

outrider specialist in black ops 3

Learning how to survive on the streets enabled Outrider to hone her senses. Outrider is unlocked at Level 1, is a great Specialist in Black Ops 3, and will use her Special Ability to her advantage. This ability, Vision Pulse, will send a Sonic pulse out on the battlefield that will reveal enemies within its range, even detecting enemies through walls in this Treyarch title.

The Special Ability for Outrider is great for solo players that don’t want to be caught off guard by enemies. However, the Special Weapon might be best for players that keep to the long-range because the weapon, the Sparrow, is a bow that can instantly kill anyone, along with an explosive bolt for extra damage.

6 Ruin

ruin specialist in black ops 3

As the default Specialist at Level 1, Ruin is cybernetically augmented to give players that extra edge they need upon their first multiplayer match in Black Ops 3. The Special Ability of Overdrive will give Ruin an immense speed boost for a short time, allowing him to sprint and use his movability to a greater effect than other characters can experience, meaning intense gunplay is guaranteed in the right hands.

Ruin’s Special Weapon is also unique, as he is granted Gravity Spikes to replace his guns. These Gravity Spikes are deadly and will see Ruin slam down on the ground from mid-air, killing anyone within range, perfect for game modes where players are grouped up like Domination or Hardpoint.

5 Spectre

spectre specialist in black ops 3

Spectre is a Specialist unlocked at Level 40, and his backstory is as stealthy as his movement. Spectre's Special Ability is the true shining talent of this Specialist, as it allows for the character to go invisible for a time. Players can use Active Camo to escape hostiles or to sneakily capture objectives. However, as soon as the player attacks, the camo will deactivate.

Spectre's Special Weapon, the Ripper, requires some talents when it comes to melee capabilities. Players are given twin blades, but they do not replace the player's weapon, meaning they can use their melee button whilst shooting. The Ripper gives players an extended lunge but is still a dangerous weapon for both enemies and the player.

4 Firebreak

firebreak specialist in black ops 3

The utility of fire is a dangerous game, and Firebreak utilizes it like an artist whose brush is a flame. Firebreak is one of the only Specialists with two offensive moves, the first being his Special Ability, Heat Wave. With Heat Wave active, players can unleash a burst of heat that stuns enemies and can destroy enemy equipment. The burst of fire will cause panic amongst enemies, allowing for Firebreak to escape or attack, especially in smaller maps like Nuketown.

The Special Weapon for Firebreak is the Purifier, a flamethrower that needs no introduction. Players can ignite their targets, damaging them with a decent range over time. It can kill opponents pretty quickly just from a quick blaze of the flame, but players need to reach Level 46 first.

3 Reaper

reaper specialist in black ops 3

Reaper may immediately appeal to some fans of Black Ops 3 just because it’s a robot. A cutting-edge experiment built solely for war, Reaper has some of the best abilities in Black Ops 3 for a reason, but only once players reach Level 34. Reaper’s Special Ability is called Psychosis, and it will create three digital decoys of Reaper, allowing each Reaper to glow blue and trigger enemy equipment and mock-fire enemies, allowing for the player-controlled Reaper to confuse enemies.

The most unique feature of the Reaper is the Special Weapon, which turns its arm into a mini-gun. This Special Weapon is called Scythe. It’s a weapon that causes a lot of death due to the rapid-fire and high damage output. However, when the weapon is fired, Reaper is notably slower.

2 Battery

battery specialist in black ops 3

Heavily armored, Battery will give players the feeling of a tank, complete with the gunfire to one too, a great advantage to even those at Level 1. Battery’s Special Ability, Kinetic Armor, will give players extra armor which can deflect bullets and other damage to enable the player to take more shots for five seconds. However, it cannot protect the player from headshots, explosives, and melee damage, but it’s a great ability to counter gunfire.

Explosions are a talent of Battery, especially with her War Machine Special Weapon. Battery will be given a grenade launcher that fires into a cluster of bouncing and splitting bombs, each detonates on impact to instantly kill enemies caught in the explosions.

1 Seraph

seraph specialist in black ops 3

As part of the 54 Immortals, Seraph proves herself a dedicated and deadly member, one that players will see whenever they come across her in Black Ops 3 once she is unlocked at Level 22. Seraph has a Special Ability called Combat Focus, which will allow her to trigger a bonus to her score that will be rewarded with faster Scorestreaks, meaning Seraph players can effectively take over the match with high-earned Scorestreaks.

The biggest advantage to Seraph is not her Special Ability, but her Special Weapon. Seraph will be given the Annihilator, a revolver with a few bullets that will guarantee one-shot kill anyone she aims its sights on. It has great power that can go through targets, and cause immense damage to Scorestreaks.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
