Wonder Weapons are essential to Call of Duty Zombies, especially in more recent releases of Black Ops 6, where they are the only reliable thing that players can use to reach high rounds and complete the main easter egg quests. With the release of Black Ops 7 being closer than you think, it's time to look at the Wonder Weapons that have featured in Call of Duty Zombies' stellar past, and make a decision on which of them shouldn't make a return. Call of Duty Zombies loves bringing back classics, but these classics are better left buried.
8 Elemental Swords
The Legendary Swords of Citadelle des Morts Should Remain Sheathed
- Featured in: Citadelle des Morts (Call of Duty: Black Ops 6)
Elemental Wonder Weapons are a staple of the series, and they should certainly carry forward. Icons like the Elemental Staffs of Origins and the Elemental Bows of Der Eisendrache serve a place and a purpose, but the Elemental Swords of Citadelle des Morts? These are weapons that, while fun, can certainly stay behind. There's nothing wrong with these weapons, and all 4 of them serve an excellent purpose, but they really have no lore reason or any reason at all to exist in future maps, especially when they worked so well for Citadelle des Morts. Finding a way to bring them back would just mean that there's no opportunity for a more exciting melee Wonder Weapon, as it would be nice to see Treyarch outdo themselves with these fun swords as the blueprint.
7 Winter's Howl
Five's Freezing Gun, Countered by Ammo Mods
- First Featured in: Five (Call of Duty: Black Ops)
- Last Featured in: Classified (Call of Duty: Black Ops 4)
Winter's Howl is easily remembered as one of the most mediocre Wonder Weapons, and bringing it back wouldn't do it any favors. Winter's Howl has one gimmick, which is to shoot out freezing rounds that will slow and freeze zombies, allowing them to be shattered with a gun or a slide. However, the gun suffers from a complete lack of damage, and now it has new competition. With recent releases featuring Ammo Mods like Cryo Freeze, regular bullets can now freeze zombies, so why have a Wonder Weapon for that gimmick when a standard bullet can get the job done?
6 Paralyzer
Buried's Hover-and-Slow Gun That Has No Use in Modern Zombies
- Featured in: Buried (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2)
Buried features a few Wonder Weapons, but the Paralyzer is by far the most iconic. The Paralyzer is a heavy Wonder Weapon, and players can use its charged, unlimited ammo capacity to slow zombies and shoot it at their feet to slowly hover across to other buildings. The Paralyzer becomes a fun mobility item and a decent slowing weapon, but with movement becoming more intricate and fast-moving in more recent titles, the Paralyzer's use is no longer needed. Why hover over mall gaps to other buildings when you can sprint, jump, and vault over ledges?
5 31-79 JGb215
Shangri-La's Shrink Ray/Baby Gun That's Been Countered By Sprinting
- First Featured in: Shangri-La (Call of Duty: Black Ops)
- Last Featured in: Shangri-La (Call of Duty: Black Ops 3)
The 31-79 JGb215 is a fairly convoluted name for the Baby Gun, a Shrink Ray that will see zombies become little variants that can be charged into and kicked. While it's a hilarious Wonder Weapon that easily allows players to stop the undead horde in their new baby step tracks, it's also a Wonder Weapon that was once great for stopping players from getting trapped in corners, which is no longer viable. In today's era, players can jump over obstacles and use perks like PhD Flopper to push past zombies and make them explode, so shrinking them just to make room isn't very viable, and it's doubtful that the inclusion of Special and Elite zombies could be taken out so easily by baby-fying them.
4 Sliquifier
Die Rise's Slippery Weapon for Vertical Movement
- Featured in: Die Rise (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2)
The Sliquifier has only ever been on Die Rise, and with the newest Zombies release, perhaps it will stay that way forever. The Sliquifier isn't bad, and in fact, it's one of the best Wonder Weapons. With high damage and a slip-and-slide mechanic, the Sliquifier remains a ton of fun for a map that's all about verticality, but that's exactly the problem. The Sliquifier served a purpose, allowing for high-speed slides across buildings, but the movement has evolved in games since Black Ops 2, so the gimmick of the Sliquifier would feel pointless in today's era outside of nostalgia.
3 Gorgofex
Reckoning's Bio-Aether Hand Cannon That's Had Its Time in the Sun
- Featured in: Reckoning (Call of Duty: Black Ops 6)
Reckoning is the final map of Black Ops 6, and the Wonder Weapon featured is a fairly mediocre one. It's not awful, but it's not exceptional. The Gorgofex Wonder Weapon serves its purpose, and its upgraded variants serve to tie up loose ends that started in the Liberty Falls storyline with Panos and Blanchard. Regardless of the upgrades, Gorgofex is an okay-ish Wonder Weapon that traps zombies in the air and destroys them with fierce charged blasts, but why has it come back? Something new would always be nice, even if the design of this weapon belongs in the Dark Aether.
2 Thrustodyne Aeronautics Model 23
TranZit's Jet Gun That Would Be Too Predictable
- First Featured in: TranZit (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2)
- Last Featured in: Liberty Falls (Call of Duty: Black Ops 6)
The Thrustodyne Aeronautics Model 23 is a rather lengthy name, so most just call it the Jet Gun, and for a simple reason. The Jet Gun sucks, quite literally, forcing enemies to lose their footing as they get sucked into a jet engine and come out the other end as a bloody jelly of guts, blood, and torn limbs. The Jet Gun was genuinely a bad Wonder Weapon in TranZit, and while it had great staying potential in Liberty Falls, it would feel cheapened for it to return for the second year in a row, even if Black Ops 7 could feature a revamped TranZit. Bringing back the Jet Gun would simply be too predictable.
1 Blundergat
Mob of the Dead's Blast From the Past That Has Too Many Scars
- First Featured in: Mob of the Dead (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2)
- Last Featured in: Blood of the Dead (Call of Duty: Black Ops 4)
The Blundergat was the exclusive Wonder Weapon found in Mob of the Dead, and it was certainly a fun weapon. It's essentially a powerful 2-shot shotgun, with multiple barrels and upgrades that can turn zombies into mush. However, the Blundergat was perfect for Alcatraz in Blood of the Dead and Mob of the Dead, and really doesn't serve any purpose outside of that map. Even so, the Blundergat has scarred memories, associated with the emotional death of Richtofen, and the loss of the Mob of the Dead crew that would make the return of this weapon seem cheap, in a way.
