Summary

  • EA's Black Panther game was canceled.
  • Leaked concept art features T'Challa's son, Azari.
  • The game included multiple playable characters and a Skrull invasion.

Concept art for EA’s Black Panther game seems to have been leaked online following its cancellation. In 2023, EA announced that it would be publishing a video game based on Marvel’s iconic African superhero Black Panther, with the newly formed studio Cliffhanger Games developing it. Not much more information was officially revealed about this project, but a few rumors suggested that players would be able to choose their own character to carry on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector.

Sadly, it was announced earlier this week that the Black Panther game was canceled at EA, with Cliffhanger Games shutting down as a result. This was just the latest in a series of high-profile layoffs at EA, and representatives at the company say that it was done as part of an effort to refocus the company’s output toward higher-profile franchises like Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends.

The download size for Marvel Rivals' Season 2.5 update is said to be massive, as noted by a reliable source ahead of the upcoming patch's launch.

While the Black Panther game will never see the light of day, it looks like fans are getting a glimpse into what might have been. Alleged concept art images and plot details for Cliffhanger’s Black Panther title are being shared online by a Twitter user named notfunEman. They say that these images and details come from a “confidential EA survey” they supposedly took part in.

Black Panther Concept Art and Plot Details Leaked Online

According to the information provided by notfunEman, EA’s Black Panther game would have featured multiple playable characters, including T’Challa’s son Azari. Rough concept art depicts a scene where Azari battles his father in a combat ritual before Wakanda is invaded by the Skrull. T’Challa is taken prisoner by the shape-shifting aliens, which would presumably lead the player to mount a rescue for Wakanda’s king. Other images include some of Wakanda’s African scenery, a shot of Black Panther reading a holographic map, and a jet flying over a desert village.

Judging from this concept art, it seems that Cliffhanger’s Black Panther game was going to borrow heavily from the MCU and Marvel’s Avengers for its depiction of Wakanda, as well as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s plotline of a new hero taking over as the titular hero. It all seems very interesting, though, unfortunately, gamers will never get to see how EA’s Black Panther title would have ended up in terms of gameplay. On a lighter note, comic book fans will still get to don the mask of the Black Panther in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which is set to launch sometime next year and stars Azzuri, the Panther of the World War 2 era.
