Summary

  • Blade's MCU reboot faces major development struggles with changing directors and writers.
  • Mahershala Ali admits uncertainty about the status of the Blade reboot.
  • Despite setbacks, Blade is still expected to have a future in the MCU, potentially through a Midnight Sons project.

It would seem as though Blade himself, Mahershala Ali, doesn't know the status of the MCU's planned reboot. Marvel first announced their plans for the Blade reboot in 2019, with Ali cast as the titular vampire slayer. However, the film's development has faced nothing but trouble, having seen its release date disappear, with creative struggles behind the scenes.

Blade has had at least two directors over its development, each leaving over creative differences with Marvel on the project. Numerous writers have also taken a shot at the script, including True Detective scribe Nic Pizzolatto. However, Blade never came together, and the project has not progressed further over the years. Recent rumors have called the movie completely dead, but the confusion surrounding the reboot only grows, because new whispers say it may still live. The confusion surrounding Blade is so bad that not even Ali knows what is going on.

Iron Man has had a number of awesome suit-up moments throughout the MCU, but these are the absolute best of them all.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ali stated, "I don’t know where Marvel is at right now." The actor is clearly looking for fantastic characters to play, even seeming disappointed at the lack of Blade getting made. However, just like the fans frustrated over the lack of progress on the MCU reboot, Ali said, "I would love for Blade to happen." Check out Ali's comments on Marvel's Blade reboot in the clip below:

Will Blade Find His Way Out Of Development Hell?

MCU Blade Project

The issues surrounding Blade's reboot have been garnering headlines for years, with the production fitting the definition of being stuck in development hell. Every piece of good news the movie seems to get, like a cast that included Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth, was met with avalanches of disappointment that continued to see the creatives in charge of the film leaving. Fans of the character have been eager to see his return, and even the writer of the Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy said he reached out to Marvel, asking if they needed help. He also said Marvel turned him down before the rumors of the reboot being completely dead hit.

Blade is still likely to have his day in the MCU, with avenues of entry beyond his own movie. Whispers of a potential Midnight Sons MCU project present the perfect space, with Marvel even reportedly working on the supernatural hero team-up. However, Blade has a proven track record with solo films, meaning that he'll get his due, whether it is Ali or a complete recast. Blade's MCU future is still in the air, but the character can live on.
