Publisher NetEase Games has recently announced Blood Message, a single-player action adventure game with strong Uncharted and Tomb Raider vibes set in Ancient China. Blood Message looks like a huge blockbuster action RPG, and it seems like the perfect pick for fans of third-person action-adventure titles.

Blood Message will be set in 848 AD, during the late Tang Dynasty. In the upcoming third-person action-adventure game, players will take on the role of a nameless messenger and his son as they travel East along the Silk Road to deliver a message that could affect the future of their homeland. According to NetEase, the characters will travel over miles of deserts, “facing unforgiving terrain and overwhelming odds.” The publisher also promises “visceral, realistic combat blending stealth and survival mechanics,” and an emotional journey that explores themes such as family, honor, and sacrifice.

Now, Blood Message has been announced via a lengthy trailer, which showcases fights, emotional story bits, and exploration in the desert and through ancient temples. Blood Message will be developed by NetEase’s 24 Entertainment Studio, powered by Unreal Engine 5, and is said to be coming to PC and consoles, but it still does not have an official release date. Publisher NetEase is more well-known for live service games such as Marvel Rivals, so it remains to be seen how the developers will handle this seemingly massive single-player title. In any case, Blood Message has attracted attention, with the trailer getting over a million views in less than 24 hours and comments trending on the positive side, with many already eager to get their hands on the title.

Blood Message Looks Like Uncharted Set In Ancient China

Blood Message will likely be a good pick for gamers who loved Uncharted, Tomb Raider, and other similar, cinematic third-person action experiences. With games like the yet-to-be-officially-unveiled next Tomb Raider still some time away from being completed, this could be a good pick for players eager to jump back into a game that also blends stealth and action when it finally releases.

It’s still too soon to say how good Blood Message will be, but recent games like Black Myth: Wukong have proved that the Chinese gaming industry has the potential to make huge single-player blockbusters that can resonate with Western audiences. Released last year, Black Myth: Wukong sold over 25 million copies, becoming one of the most successful games released in 2024. While Black Myth: Wukong was especially popular in China, which Blood Message will likely be, too, the title was a global hit, and Blood Message may follow in its footsteps.
