Summary
- Bloodborne initially had a proper shield during development, which some fans felt the game lacked.
- Despite the lack of viable shields, Elden Ring reintroduced shields, including some effective ones.
- PC gamers remain optimistic about the possibility of playing Bloodborne on PC, thanks to a new PlayStation emulator.
A recent datamine has revealed that Bloodborne apparently used to have a proper shield during the development stage, something that a few fans have felt the lack of in the game. This datamine was possible due to a recent breakthrough made by the ShadPS4 emulator, which allows Bloodborne to run on PC, to some extent.
Bloodborne is quite different than the other Soulslike games as far as shields are concerned as the game has only two of them, both of which are practically useless. Despite Bloodborne lacking viable ones altogether, Elden Ring brought back shields and there are some really good ones in the game. The wooden shield present in Bloodborne is really not effective, and even the developers take a jab at the players trying to use it by stating that Hunters do not use them. While it definitely pushed many Soulsborne fans out of their comfort zone, many believe that it forced players to be aggressive and made the gameplay much more exciting.
In a new post on Twitter, a user fromsoftserve reveals an interesting discovery they made while going through the character files in Bloodborne. Apparently, Bloodborne had a proper shield which never made it to the game's final build. The user expressed their surprise at the presence of the shield in the game's files as it is contrary to the common consensus that one of Bloodborne's core premises is pushing players to be more aggressive. Unlike the other two shields in the game, this one actually looks like it's a proper shield that might be as effective as some of the popular shields in the Soulsborne genre.
PC Gamers Are Optimistic About Playing Bloodborne on PC
PC gamers have been requesting a PC port for Bloodborne for several years now, and with every passing day, fans are beginning to lose hope. However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel as a new PlayStation emulator has shown some promising signs of running Bloodborne. While the game is nowhere close to being completely playable, this is just the start and fans are hopeful that with the relentless efforts of the community, Bloodborne on PC will be reality one day.
What will be interesting to see is how many more such secrets get uncovered as modders try to bring Bloodborne to PC. In the past, dataminers have given players some really interesting insights behind the development. For instance, one datamine revealed that Elden Ring's Malenia used to be a much tougher boss. Considering how convulated Soulslike games can get at times, the community also relies on dataminers to uncover a lot of the secrets which are quite difficult to figure out on their own.
