Summary

  • Film and gaming insider DanielRPK claims that a new Bloodborne game project is in development.
  • The insider didn't specify whether this project is a remaster, remake, or sequel.
  • Despite sweltering fan demand, Sony hasn't confirmed any future plans for Bloodborne yet.

Yet another rumor about a new Bloodborne game project has surfaced, but this time, it comes from a rather unexpected source. There have been countless whispers and rumors surrounding more Bloodborne projects in recent years, but none of them have panned out so far amid continuously rising fan demand.

Launched in 2015 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Bloodborne is regarded by many as one of the greatest, most distinctive games developer FromSoftware has ever made. Bloodborne's gothic horror elements and Lovecraftian creatures were a steep departure from the medieval setting of the Dark Souls series, drawing intrigue and resonating immensely well with players. However, the 30fps framerate cap stuck out like a sore thumb for many Bloodborne fans, which is why pleas for a remaster started ballooning after the launch of the PS5 in holiday 2020. To date, though, Sony has yet to confirm any future plans for the Bloodborne IP.

Why Bloodborne Rumors Are Heating Up Ahead of Sony's Tokyo Game Show Appearance

Sony's upcoming appearance at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show has plenty of rumors swirling, and more than a few of them involve FromSoftware's Bloodborne.

However, this hasn't slowed down the Bloodborne rumor mill, and insider DanielRPK is the latest source to add to it. In a recent post on his paywalled Patreon channel, the insider said, "I hear there's a new Bloodborne game project in development." There was no further elaboration on whether this purported Bloodborne project is a remaster, sequel, or remake, but DanielRPK's insight is unusual as far as Bloodborne rumors go, as the insider mostly dabbles in movie-related leaks with occasional coverage on games. Therefore, while his information may not turn out to be accurate, it is noteworthy at the very least.

More Bloodborne May Come in the Future, But a Grain of Salt is Advised

DanielRPK previously leaked alleged concept art from an unannounced PlayStation Studios game, which he supposedly acquired from a casting call. However, the insider didn't provide any such details about where he obtained his information regarding a future Bloodborne game project, which seems rather questionable when coupled with the vagueness around the project's nature. Like with every rumor, especially a Bloodborne one, fans should maintain a healthy level of skepticism until Sony officially speaks about it.

If a new Bloodborne project is currently being worked on at Sony, though, it might be in the hands of an internal PlayStation team rather than FromSoftware. A few months ago, reliable insider Jeff Grubb claimed that FromSoftware is not involved in the development of a Bloodborne remaster or PC port at the moment, which leaves a small window of possibility for Sony to carry the franchise forward by itself, especially since it owns the Bloodborne IP. Given how much interest still lies in Bloodborne even after nine years, it's difficult to imagine Sony doesn't have any plans to expand it in the future, but all that remains to be seen.
