  • Sony may potentially clamp down on the emulator due to copyright concerns.

Bloodborne might soon unofficially jump to PC with the help of a PlayStation 4 emulator. Since its release in 2015, there's been no shortage of fans who have been asking for a remastered PC version of developer FromSoftware's critically acclaimed action RPG, though previous reports claimed these requests did not convince publisher Sony to greenlight a port. However, some users are taking matters into their own hands and have even teased a promising emulator that could soon let players experience Bloodborne on their desktops.

Bloodborne has long been regarded as one of the most masterful examples of the Soulslike genre, with many fans believing the Lovecraftian action RPG equaled or even surpassed all subsequent FromSoftware projects. However, its status as a PlayStation exclusive also meant its reach was limited compared to other multi-platform titles, much to the regret of its fans. Furthermore, a reliable insider additionally reported both FromSoftware and Sony currently had no plans to port Bloodborne to PC, though director Hidetaka Miyazaki also notably claimed he was not opposed to the idea.

But while an official port might not be on the table anytime in the near future, PC players might soon have the chance to cleanse the Victorian-style streets of Yharnam through the use of an unofficial emulator. The developers for ShadPS4, which is one of the relatively new PlayStation 4 emulators available online, posted a promising clip of Bloodborne running on PC. The short video lasts for less than a minute and showcases the game's booting sequence, title menu, and a somewhat buggy character creation screen.

ShadPS4 Is Still Ironing Out Bloodborne's Bugs

While this is a big step in regards to PlayStation 4 emulation, the unofficial port is still notably incomplete and is far from ready for a 1.0 release. Currently, trying to progress past the character creation screen leads to errors in the game, and the people behind ShadPS4 themselves admitted it was only a start and that there was a lot of work left to be done. The developers for the emulator did not provide a concrete release window for a stable version, but fans are hopeful that it won't be too long before they can finally play one of the most acclaimed PlayStation exclusives on PC.

Bloodborne fans are likely happy with the increasing capability of unofficial emulators, but there are still concerns that Sony might clamp down on the release of a third-party program that potentially infringes on its copyrighted IPs. The legality of unofficial emulators has additionally long been an issue. It wouldn't be the first time a major video game developer shut down a fanmade program, as was the recent case with Nintendo and Yuzu.
