Industry insider Jeff Grubb says a recent check with his sources turned up the same answer Bloodborne fans always dread: nothing is happening. The update raises fresh doubts about the chances of Bloodborne being modernized anytime soon.

Lady Maria Bloodborne

Launched in 2015 and still capped at 30 frames per second, Bloodborne has fueled a decade's worth of re-release rumors that have flared up and fizzled out close to a dozen times. Most recently, Sony issued a DMCA takedown notice to the maker of a 60fps Bloodborne mod in January 2025, prompting speculation that if the company was taking notice of such fan projects, official efforts to modernize the game could at last be in the pipeline.

All Quiet on the Bloodborne Front, Insider Says

No such thing is the case, Jeff Grub reports. Speaking during the September 18 episode of the Game Mess Decides podcast, the industry insider said that he had checked in with his sources "relatively recently" but "continued to hear that nothing is happening with Bloodborne." The remarks mark Grubb’s first report on the 2015 game in over a year. Previously, in June 2024, he dismissed the possibility of a Bloodborne remaster or PC port being in development.

The context of Grubb's latest update is tied to the next PlayStation State of Play that's rumored for late September 2025. Specifically, he was commenting on the likelihood of Bloodborne news emerging at the event. Recent industry reports suggest the yet-to-be-confirmed showcase could feature another wave of Xbox titles coming to PlayStation. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Starfield are two such possibilities that have been rumored for a while now.

bloodborne return to yharnam 2025

As for Bloodborne, the chances of a modernization in the near future currently appear slim at best. About five years ago, some industry insiders suggested its absence from Sony’s plans might be due to the company not wanting to proceed with a remake or remaster without FromSoftware, the game’s original developer. These days, that interpretation appears less likely in light of the critically acclaimed 2020 remake of FromSoftware's Demon’s Souls, which was handled by Bluepoint Games and the now-defunct Japan Studio.

[I] checked in on it relatively recently, and kind of continued to hear nothing is happening with Bloodborne, so don't expect that.

Demon's Souls and Bloodborne are one of the select few PlayStation games that are more than a few years old but haven't yet been ported to PC. Gran Turismo 7 is in the same boat. According to early 2025 reports, neither Demon's Souls nor Gran Turismo 7 are currently in development for PC. In June 2024, FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki said the company's developers would very much like to see Bloodborne on PC, adding that he's personally not opposed to the idea either.
