Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has chimed in with a theory about the absence of a Bloodborne remaster in all these years. FromSoftware fans have long been clamoring for a remastered version of Bloodborne on PlayStation 5 and PC, but the critically-acclaimed game remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive even in its tenth year after release.
Bloodborne launched in 2015 as the result of a collaboration between FromSoftware and Sony's now-defunct Japan Studio. Although Bloodborne accrued overwhelming praise from critics and players alike, its technical performance remains a sore point for many. Bloodborne is locked to 30fps on PS4, and occasionally dips even lower. Furthermore, Bloodborne suffers from uneven frame pacing, which can result in a jittery image output. Many fans reckon that a Bloodborne remaster could easily iron out these issues thanks to stronger current-gen hardware, but despite heaps of demand, such a project has yet to materialize.

Sony's apparent evasion of a Bloodborne remaster is baffling, but PlayStation's former Head of Indies, Shuhei Yoshida, recently proposed a theory that may justify it. The beloved PlayStation executive has departed Sony after 31 years of service, and recently sat down with Kinda Funny Games to discuss his future plans. During the interview, Yoshida brought up the constant fan requests for a Bloodborne remaster, and offered a "personal theory" explaining why it hasn't happened yet. According to Yoshida, FromSoftware president and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki "really" loves the game and is interested in revisiting it.
Bloodborne Remaster May Not Have Happened Yet Because Hidetaka Miyazaki is Very Busy
However, Yoshida reckons that Miyazaki's busy schedule has yet to afford him the opportunity to think about Bloodborne, and that the FromSoftware boss "doesn't want anyone else to touch it." Therefore, the PlayStation team could simply be respecting Miyazaki's wish and is holding off on doing anything with Bloodborne until the FromSoftware boss is a bit more freed up. While Yoshida's theory is definitely viable, Miyazaki's past comments on the Bloodborne situation allude to Sony having the upper hand. When Miyazaki was asked about the potential for a Bloodborne remake last year, he expressed gratitude for the community's passion but strongly implied that he was not at liberty to greenlight the project by himself.
It's no secret that Sony owns the Bloodborne IP and calls the shots regarding its future, which was most likely what Miyazaki was referring to. As a result, a Bloodborne remaster can seemingly happen only if FromSoftware and Sony team up again. Unfortunately, it appears all too likely that this potential collaboration won't happen for a while, which means Bloodborne's 10th anniversary might just slip by with a whisper instead of a bang.
