Blue Prince is a game that revolves around discovery, problem-solving, detective skills, and a lot of RNG. It’s a combination of multiple genres, but it merges them all quite well, delivering a cohesive and fun experience for the player that can keep you busy for quite a long time.
Blue Prince: Pump Room Guide
In order to solve a whole bunch of puzzles in Blue Prince, you'll need to figure out how to use the pumps in the Pump Room to lower water levels.
Drafting is one of the core mechanics of Blue Prince, and choosing the right room when drafting is very important when it comes to winning the game. Red Rooms are the big “no-no” rooms in the game that always come with some downside, but there is a benefit to drafting them in the right circumstances.
What Are Red Rooms in Blue Prince?
There are a few different types of rooms in Blue Prince, each boasting a few defining characteristics that make them stand out from the rest and give them importance in the overall flow of the gameplay.
Red Rooms are a type that always comes with a caveat. There are a total of eight red rooms in the game, and each has a major “con” that makes them an undesirable draft. Some have minor effects, like a lost coin and an extra step cost, while others have massive repercussions, causing players to lose half of their steps.
When Should You Draft Red Rooms in Blue Prince?
There are some scenarios in which it makes sense to draft red rooms in Blue Prince. They do have downsides, but some of them can be mitigated. Some rooms have hidden secrets, others have interactions with different rooms, while some are just good to draft despite their downside.
- Firstly, the Gymnasium is one of the best red rooms in the game. It costs an extra step for you, but it has 3 doors, and its downside can be mitigated with the help of the Utility Closet. The Dark Room is just as good, and you should always draft it if you have a utility box in your manor.
- The Archives are a bit more tricky. If you draft it, all future drafts will hide (or archive) one of the three choices. It’s not recommended that you draft this early in the game, but it shouldn’t be a big deal in the late game, especially if you have a lot of routes available.
- The Maid’s Chamber is a horrible pick in the early game, but it’s great in the middle and late game if you have the Nursery already drafted.
You should hold on to your gems so you don’t get caught “red-handed” with a set of bad choices.
- The Weight Room has a lever for the south gate of the Antechamber. To access it, you need to break the wall behind the punching bag with a Power Hammer. There is also a good chance that the room will contain a broken lever, which can be used at the Greenhouse to open another Antechamber door.
- The Furnace can melt the items in the Freezer if placed within a few ranks of it.
- The Chapel holds clues to solving the Tomb puzzle. Additionally, if you solve the chess puzzle in the Precipice and choose the Bishop, you’ll be able to gain 30 coins instead of paying 1 coin when entering the Chapel.
- The Lavatory is an inoffensive (if useless) room without anything going for it. There’s no real reason to draft it, as it is a dead end and doesn’t have any special effects or secrets that could help you on your journey.
- The Closed Exhibit doesn't have any downsides if you have the Security Keycard.
All Red Rooms in Blue Prince
All the red rooms, except for the Closed Exhibit, can be drafted at any point in your manor exploration. The Standard and Common rarity rooms are easy to find, while the Unusual or Rare rooms can be quite difficult to encounter. However, the Closed Exhibit is a Found Floorplan that only enters your draft pool after you've discovered it in the Drafting Studio.
