Blue Prince is an incredibly dense game with a ton of lore scattered around the house. If you have finally reached the last room, Room 46, you have technically beat the game. However, there is still so much to see.
If you are looking for an explanation for the cutscene after you reach Room 46 in Blue Prince, you can find that below. First, this article will explain the scene, then it will dive deeper into the lore around the house to build a complete picture.
Blue Prince: Guest Bedroom Guide
The Guest Bedroom is one of the rooms in Blue Prince that can be upgraded, and there are three different interesting options.
A Breakdown of the Ending Scene in Blue Prince
At the beginning of the cutscene, you see the main character of Blue Prince, Simon, opening up the door to the final room in the manor. He peeks inside as a voiceover reads a children's book. The voice is that of Simon's mother, Mary. This is mostly the same book that you can find in both the Master Bedroom and the Nursery rooms in Blue Prince. Then the scene changes to the red paper crown that Simon had as a boy, a photo of Simon as a child with his mother and father, then Simon's mother reading The Red Prince to him.
Each of the next scenes are Simon dressed in red, playing with red crayons, interacting with red objects, standing in the middle of a red parade, and coloring with a red crayon. Everything is red, except when it cuts to Simon's mother, who is wearing a blue scarf and surrounded by blue. In one of the scenes, it shows banners of red hanging over the blue scarf, which has fallen to the ground. Here is the poem that Mary reads in the ending:
"There was once a red Prince
Who sat on a red Throne.
He had a red Crown made of rubies
and a red Castle made of stone.
The prince had a love for all things red.
"It's the only true color,"
the Prince often said.
He could not stand the sight
of a canary or a crow.
He could not stand the white
of the swan in the snow.
And he never looked up
for fear of the view.
He had heard that the sky
was not a red hue.
He didn't see the birds
or the changing of the leaves,
and he never saw the sights
of life's many symphonies.
He couldn't see beyond
the red shade he was aware.
He never caught a glimpse
of the world I had to share.
But one day the Prince saw something new.
And if you look closely,
you might see it too.
The skies parted,
and the clouds withdrew.
The Prince had a new favorite color:
the color blue."
If you have gotten into the Attic or had a magnifying glass in the Master Bedroom, you most likely saw the notes that Simon's mother couldn't get her book published without changing the ending, because it was "too political." But what was so political about the poem?
It was all in the colors. The country that the manor is in is called Fenn Aries, and it flies a red flag. This war-loving nation was built on top of the ruins of a country called Orinda Aries, which lost the war it had against those who wanted a military state; this is why the red rooms in Blue Prince have negative effects on the player. Blue is the color of the revolution, the underground of Fenn Aries, and Mary was a part of this underground.
The Lore of Blue Prince
There are a lot of spoilers for lore and a little bit of the second ending of Blue Prince in this section.
In what is now called Fenn Aries, there was a 22-year war between the imperial house and a rebellion. The previous king was a kind man of the people, but when he died, the nobles, shocked by a king who could be swayed by commoners, sided with Prince Leerson. Leerson was well-known for having the opposite views of his father, and he hoped to return Orindia to its previous state of absolute monarchy. This began a rebellion among the commonfolk in the area, leading to the 22-year war that led to Orindia's black flags being burnt, giving way to the red flags of Fenn Aries. This is why the Sigil of Fenn Aries is militaristic.
Since Prince Leerson lost the war, the royal family of Orindia was banished to live in Ejara, the country to the south. Instead of a monarchy, a military state rose in Orindia, proclaiming itself Fenn Aries. This army-run government began the painstaking process of turning everything red, replacing the previous black colors of the previous government, heavily censoring history books, and forbidding the flying of black flags.
In the Tomb, you can find a note written in Ejaran, which can be translated with hints from around the house, mostly in the Classroom. You can roughly translate the note as follows:
To my first child,
You are my day, my night, and my world.
To start your future without me, I gift you my house in the North (in Fenn Aries).
To start my future without you, I bid you to heed my words: you are a highborn noble.
You are not of House Sinclair nor House Epsen. Forget your northern goals.
Your name is Jai Ari. Your future is to the south, the opposite of your father.
Toward a new era, toward the North's future.
Goodbye my child,
Your mother
This is a note to Clara from her mother when she married into Herbert Sinclair's family. She married the first Simon Sinclair, who was the main character's grandfather and Herbert's brother. The house that was left to her is now your home, now that you have reached room 46. This lets you know that Clara's mother was of the original Orindia royal bloodline. It's Ejaran, not Orindian, to pass down the name of the mother to her children rather than the father's name, but the Orindian royals have been in exile in Ejara for several generations.
It is a reminder that she should not forget that she is of the bloodline to rule Fenn Aries, and that she should focus on building a new future in their ancient homeland. Mary, and therefore the main character, is a descendant of this royal family. Although Mary is part of the royal bloodline of a dead country, she doesn't want to rebuild the black flag of Orindian. She believes that the Red Prince should be focused on something new: something blue. In order to accomplish this, she decides to steal the crown jewels of Fenn Aries: a crown decorated in red. They used the Closed Exhibit room in Blue Prince as practice to steal it.
If you have found the safehouse in the Reservoir in Blue Prince, you will see the beginnings of the plans to steal the crown of Fenn Aries. When you reach room 46 for the second time, you will see that this crown has been redecorated with "freshly cut sapphires." Your mother, after her escapades, left the continent several years ago, leaving you to become the Blue Prince. There are a lot more details you can find around the manor, but much of this is more tangled up with the second ending of Blue Prince.
