There is no shortage of things to find in Blue Prince as you explore the manor. But the one thing that you will constantly need to be on the lookout for is more gems and keys. Not having enough of either can easily end what could otherwise be a successful attempt to reach the Antechamber. While these items do have guaranteed spawn points in certain rooms, they can also randomly show up anywhere. You can even find them in the occasional locked trunk that you will come across, and here is how you can unlock them and claim the items inside.

How to Open Locked Trunks in Blue Prince

The first way to open a locked trunk is by using a key. These trunks do not require a unique kind of key, and the keys that open regular doors will work just fine. However, this isn't recommended as it is far more valuable to save your keys for locked doors. The closer you get to the Antechamber, the more likely you are to encounter locked doors.

Fortunately, there is another way of opening any locked trunk that you come across. Certain rooms, like closets and green rooms, have a chance of spawning a sledgehammer. You can also purchase a Sledgehammer from the Commissary if it is available and if you have enough Gold Coins. Unlike keys, a sledgehammer stays in your inventory after you use it. So if you encounter another locked trunk while exploring, you can keep on using the same sledgehammer. This second method allows you to save your keys for more useful situations.

What Do Locked Trunks Contain in Blue Prince?

There is a variety of items you can expect to find inside of a locked trunk if you happen to encounter one, but the amount of items contained within will vary on a case-by-case basis. While regular gems and keys are the most commonly encountered items in locked trunks, there are other helpful things you can find.

While it is rare, you can find Gold Coins inside these trunks, along with one or more dice that allow you to reroll the three rooms that you get to pick whenever you draft a room. Finally, you can also find certain special keys like the Silver Key. So it is definitely worth your time trying to find a sledgehammer to open these locked trunks. While you can use a key in a pinch, it isn't recommended in this puzzle game.
