With the amount of rooms Blue Prince has in rotation, it’s a miracle that you’re able to draft anything more than once within one day at all. The game has more than a hundred rooms, and only an 8x5 grid to put everything in, minus a couple of squares for the Antechamber, Entrance Chamber, Foundation, and empty squares.
The Clock Tower is one of the rarest drafts in the game, and it can only be drafted after you’ve discovered it once already. On top of that, it contains an interesting time-related puzzle that might give you pause if you don’t know its secret already. For those unsure, here's how to solve the Clock Tower puzzle in Blue Prince.
Blue Prince: Reservoir Room Guide
The Reservoir is an area in the Basement of Blue Prince that is filled with water, but you can lower the water level in order to see it.
How to Unlock the Clock Tower Floorplan in Blue Prince
The Clock Tower is an Unusual Room that only has one door (i.e., it is a dead end). Therefore, you should think carefully before drafting it in your runs, as it can have a potentially negative effect on your map. The room costs 1 gem and gives you 1 key for every Tomorrow Room drafted in the manor, making it a great way to prep for the future (though maybe not as great for your current run).
To unlock the Clock Tower, you first need to get the Drafting Studio (2 gem cost) into your manor. Once inside this room, go to the table, where you will see a selection of three floorplans that you can choose from. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the Clock Tower. If you don’t, you’ll need to find the Drafting Studio again some other time to have a chance at obtaining it.
Blue Prince: All Red Rooms & Their Effects
Red Rooms in Blue Prince have harmful effects that can ruin your run, but some can also be useful. Here's a rundown on what each of them does.
Hints for Unlocking and Solving the Clock Tower Puzzle in Blue Prince
At first glance, there’s nothing much going on in the Clock Tower. However, taking a closer look, you’ll realize that there are two different large clocks at the top of the tower. One of them is working and telling you the current time, while the other one is stuck at precisely 1:30 PM. To start the puzzle, you need to reach the Clock Tower before 1:30 PM, meaning you’ll have almost 30 minutes to reach there from the start of the run (each in-game hour translates to about 5 minutes in real time, and you start at 8:00 AM).
Stay in the room until the clock hits 1:30 PM, and you’ll see a secret door open at the base of the tower. If you’re late, you have no choice but to try again the next day. Once inside the secret room, you’ll encounter eight grandfather clocks, each with a note that gives you a hint to solve the puzzle. Here are some more hints to help you along the way:
- Hint 1: You should check the memo in the Security Room to see the meaning of different colored notes.
- Hint 2: Hand-written red notes are different from typed red notes.
- Hint 3: Focus on notes that say something about all the clocks first and then start using notes that focus on individual clocks.
- Hint 4: You should focus on the first, sixth, and eighth notes to understand the base rules and then try to decipher the individual solutions.
How to Solve the Clock Tower Puzzle in Blue Prince
Using the eight clues given to you via the notes on the grandfather clocks, you can deduce the solution. Here’s what the final result should look like:
| Clock Number | Correct Time | Explanation | Note Content | Note Color |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clock 1 | 5:00 | One of the five clocks that has a time ending on an hour. | Each of these clocks should be set to a different time. | Blue |
| Clock 2 | 5:08 | Clock 2 and Clock 7 are interconnected. They should contain the same numbers but reversed. It has to be below 5:57, and it cannot go below 5:00. The last number should be 8, as Clock 7 must be greater than 7:00. It cannot have 5:58, as clock 3 is 5:57, thus it must be 5:08. | Five of these clocks should be set to a time ending on the hour. | Blue |
| Clock 3 | 5:57 | It should have at least two of the same numbers and a seven. It cannot have two sevens, as clock 5 has the seven in the hour hand already, and this is lower in the ascending list. It can't have the numbers 1 through 4, so 5:57 is the natural answer. | Set this clock to a time containing all different numbers. | Red |
| Clock 4 | 6:00 | One of the five clocks that has a time ending on an hour. | This clock's neighbors should both be set to a time containing a 7. | Blue |
| Clock 5 | 7:00 | It should be on the hour, and the next clue necessitates that this should contain a seven, hence 7:00. | This clock should not be set on the hour. | Red |
| Clock 6 | 8:00 | One of the five clocks that has a time ending on an hour. | None of these clocks should be set to times that contain the numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4. | Blue |
| Clock 7 | 8:05 | It relates to Clock 2. | This clock should be set to a time that contains the same three numbers of another clock but in reverse. | Blue |
| Clock 8 | 9:00 | One of the five clocks that has a time ending on an hour. | The clocks are positioned so that their times will go up in ascending order. | Red |
After solving the puzzle, the fifth grandfather clock will reveal a drawer at the bottom, which will give the player a Sanctum Key. This is the third one that was “high up, among all the clocks,” according to the note found in Room 46.
