There are several different ways to play Blue Prince. If you are just looking to dive deeper into the story and the lore, you will probably just want to keep playing normal mode, but if you want the game to get a bit harder, there are two other modes you can try out.
Dare Mode and Curse Mode can be used to change up how you play Blue Prince. In order to play either of these, you will need to complete the game on normal mode first. Then, there are a couple of things you need to do to unlock Curse Mode for yourself.

Each of the locked Sanctum Door in Blue Prince's basement has a different sigil combo inside that can only be solved by looking around in the house.
What's the Difference Between Being Cursed and Curse Mode in Blue Prince?
Curse Mode is a mode that you start a new save file with. It makes the game a lot harder by making sure you burn extra steps, extra keys, extra gems, and even extra Blue Prince coins. This lasts for as long as you play the save file. Being cursed, however, is temporary. If you give money to the Shrine's statue, then take the money back, it will curse you for several days.
While being cursed and Curse Mode do the same thing to you, being Cursed doesn't count for the Blue Prince achievement about winning in Cursed Mode. If you are trophy hunting, you'll need to unlock Curse Mode instead.
How to Unlock Curse Mode in Blue Prince
In order to get Curse Mode for your next save file, you will first need to get into the Bookshop. The Bookshop is an extremely rare floorplan that can only be drafted from the Library. It sells a variety of books; when you buy one of these books, you can then rent it from the library. You need to purchase The Curse of the Black Bridge from the Library for 40 coins.
After purchasing the book, go back into the library and pick up the paper on the table in the center of the room. Then, check that you want to read The Curse of the Black Bridge. The next time you draft the Library, that book will appear on the table for you to read.
Flip through the whole book. Next, you will need to draft the Gift Shop. As long as you have already flipped through The Curse of the Black Bridge, you will get a new item for 15 gold coins.
Purchase the CURSED COFFERS. Then, you need to draft the Blue Prince Shrine in the outdoor location behind the west gate. There will now be a little chest on the left side of the Shrine.
This chest can't be opened with a key; you will instead need the Sledgehammer item. Hit the chest, and it will open, revealing the Curse Effigy. This item will immediately curse you, and it will unlock Curse Mode.
What is Curse Mode in Blue Prince?
Curse Mode is a debuff you get every day that makes Blue Prince more challenging. Here is what you will have to deal with while playing the game in this hard mode:
- You start each day with only 13 steps.
- Each time you draft a Bedroom, lose 1 Step.
- Each time you draft a Hallway, lose 1 Key.
- Each time you draft a Green Room, lose 1 Gem.
- Each time you draft a Shop, lose 1 Coin.
- And each time you draft a Blue Prince Red Room, lose all of the above.
- The rooms will look darker, and the sky will be red.
