There are a lot of puzzles in Blue Prince, some that can be solved within the same room you find them in, like the Dartboard puzzle, and some that are much, much grander in scale. The Blue Prince Chess Puzzle is one of these puzzles, one that requires players to complete multiple runs and achieve certain requirements to access let alone solve.
Blue Prince: Picture Puzzle Solution (44-Letter Secret Code)
In each room of Blue Prince, you can find two drawings, and each of them holds a secret message for Simon to learn more about the house.
This guide explains how to find and solve the Blue Prince Chess puzzle, what the Chess pieces in Blue Prince mean, and what you can expect to get for solving this mysterious puzzle.
Where To Find The Chess Puzzle in Blue Prince
Chess Puzzle Location & Requirements
The Blue Prince Chess Puzzle can only be found in the Precipice, a location that is hidden until you are able to turn on all four blue flames on the overlook down the stairs to the east of the Estate entrance. Each of the four braziers of this stone overlook will light up when you turn four gas valves you can find around the Estate.
Once powered up, an elevator will rise from below. Take this elevator to reach the Precipice and find the Chess Puzzle room on the right side. In here, you will see a chess board that looks strikingly similar to the 9x5 layout of the Mt. Holly Estate, and six Chess pieces – a Pawn, a Knight, a Rook, a Bishop, a Queen, and a King.
How To Solve The Blue Prince Chess Puzzle
Blue Prince Chess Puzzle, Explained
Throughout your time in the game up to the point that you discover the Chess puzzle, you may have noticed that some rooms contain Chess Pieces in Blue Prince. As you journey through the game and take notes, be sure to jot down which rooms contain which Chess pieces.
Blue Prince: How To Solve The Trading Post Puzzle Box
To solve the Trading Post puzzle, Blue Prince players must first draft this Outer Room and then look for this perplexing puzzle box on a bench.
To solve the Chess Puzzle, Blue Prince players must correctly align each of the six Chess pieces on the grid with rooms in your current House layout that contain those pieces.
For example, the Den room contains a Pawn piece, so on the Chess puzzle grid, you would place the Pawn on the same spot that your Den is located in the house. If aligned correctly, the space on the Chess board will light up underneath the piece.
Because the Chess puzzle relies on the layout and rooms contained within the current day's House blueprint, it's a good idea to fill out as much of the estate as you can (and make sure to include at least one room that contains each of the six pieces), then return to the Precipice.
Continue to place each of the six Chess pieces on their corresponding spots based on the rooms in your Estate. When all six pieces are correctly placed, you will complete the Chess puzzle. Blue Prince players are then offered a choice of six permanent blessings based on the six pieces of the Chess puzzle.

Blue Prince Chess Puzzle Rewards
All Chess Puzzle Powers & Buffs
When you solve the Chess puzzle, Blue Prince will offer a selection of permanent buffs. The walls around the central puzzle platform will lift, revealing gigantic Chess pieces. Walk up to each of these to see a brief description of every Chess puzzle bonus:
-
Pawn: Ambition of the Pawn
- When you reach Rank 8 each day, you may choose Knight, Bishop, Rook, or Queen.
- Gain the power of that piece until the end of the day.
-
Knight: Mantle of the Knight
- Add THE ARMORY to your draft pool.
Blue Prince: How To Solve The Music Sheet Puzzle (Secret Message)
In Blue Prince, Sheet Music can be found in four rooms, and each contains a piece to a Music Sheet secret message players can decipher.
-
Rook: Resilience of the Rook
- You may draw floorplans up to 4 times when drafting the 4 corner rooms of your house.
-
Bishop: Piety of the Bishop
- You do not have to pay tithes.
- Instead, gain 30 Gold the first time you enter CHAPEL each day with this power.
-
Queen: Gambit of the Queen
- Each time you draft a room on the Queenside (West Wing) of your house, lose 5 Steps and gain 1 Key.
-
King: Banner of the King
- Each day, you may choose a color.
- Rooms of the chosen color are more likely to be drawn while drafting.
Once you have decided which of the Chess puzzle buffs you will pick, confirm your selection, and the walls will all close. Your chosen Chess puzzle bonus will last until the next time you complete this puzzle again on a different run.
It's effectively a permanent buff, and each is powerful in its own way, so choose wisely! The best Chess puzzle bonus in Blue Prince depends on your goals, but generally, the Mantle of the Knight (which grants the ability to draft the Armory shop) will prove the most useful – especially if you can get the Axe and cut the Gem cost off of rooms permanently.
