PlayStation first-party studio Bluepoint Games has reiterated that it's still hard at work on its planned original title. After releasing the Demon's Souls remake in 2020, Bluepoint Games has been largely quiet about its next project, with the only hint being that the game is "original" as opposed to the many remasters and remakes for which the studio is known.

Development on the original game was confirmed after PlayStation acquired Bluepoint Games in 2021, but no further details were announced. Fans were quick to point out that the deliberate wording could imply a continuation or reboot of an existing PlayStation franchise, rather than a new IP altogether. Rumors of Bluepoint developing Bloodborne 2 even circulated for a while, but were eventually invalidated. The studio itself has also been silent on the matter, keeping speculation about its original project alive.

More recently, a slide during PlayStation's corporate strategy meeting in May categorized its first-party teams, and Bluepoint was listed under "Partner Studios" alongside PC porting specialist Nixxes Software and Valkyrie Entertainment. Since both of these act as support studios for PlayStation's larger teams, many fans feared that Bluepoint's project may have been canceled, with the studio being relegated to a support role. Thankfully, a new tweet from Bluepoint's Head of Technology, Peter Dalton, confirms that work on its original game is still underway and that the team just needs time to sharpen their skills.

Bluepoint Games Is Still Developing An Original Title

Considering this unannounced title will be Bluepoint's most ambitious original project since its 2006 debut game Blast Factor, the studio is seemingly keen on taking its time and ensuring a quality standard on par with other PlayStation first-party games. Interestingly, a presentation from the Insomniac Games data breach in December 2023 revealed concept art for Bluepoint's project, showing what appeared to be an Aztec setting overlooked by two characters wielding spears, potentially hinting at a fantasy game.

However, the Bluepoint concept art from the Insomniac leak could be outdated or unused, so it shouldn't be taken as an absolute representation of the final game. Regardless of what it may be, the high-caliber Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls remakes set a promising precedent for whatever Bluepoint Games has planned. With 2024 marking four years since the studio's last release, fans speculate that an announcement could be near, with some still holding onto the hope for a potential Bloodborne 2 from Bluepoint.
