There are several reasons why players can easily be convinced to spend time farming the legendary Hellwalker shotgun in Borderlands 3. Firstly, the Jakobs-manufactured shotgun has one of the highest damage and shortest reload times in BL3. Secondly, every blast has enough power to knock back enemies to keep them at a distance. Thirdly, its incendiary pellets punch through shields and eat armor to get to the flesh for increased damage. Lastly, and most importantly, the Hellwalker is an Easter egg reference to the double-barreled super shotgun from the critically acclaimed 2016 Doom reboot.

Best Way to Farm the Hellwalker in Borderlands 3
Like most other legendary weapons, the Hellwalker shotgun has a small chance to drop from any dedicated loot source in Borderlands 3. Even if you rush through the main storyline while avoiding all the side missions, it will take around 30 hours to beat the main campaign. That should be enough time to farm hundreds of enemies, chests, slot machines, vending machines, and rewards from completing various challenges for the Hellwalker in BL3.
Trading stacks of Eridium Shards and Loot-O-Grams with Crazy Earl in Sanctuary III increases your chances of getting a legendary item.
If you are pressed for time, though, Road Dog is a respawnable mini-boss with an increased 10% chance to drop the Doom Hellwalker shotgun in Borderlands 3. This obvious reference to Roadhog from Overwatch can be found in the center of the Splinterlands on Pandora. The zone has two fast-travel points: one each on the northern and southern edges. Start from there and enter the Children of the Vault (COV) camp in the middle as shown in the map below.
Road Dog is a guaranteed spawn. However, if he does not appear, go closer to the container in the back corner of the COV camp to trigger his event. He is a Goliath enemy type with the ability to become enraged when his head is blown off, so you need to kill him quickly. The longer you take, the more enraged Road Dog will become, resulting in greater health regeneration, speed, and damage.
Not every legendary item is about improving your combat abilities. Certain items temporarily increase your legendary drop chances by over 1,000 percent. Remember to equip them when doing legendary farming runs in BL3.
In addition to the Doom-inspired Hellwalker, Road Dog also has an increased chance to drop the Redline shotgun, which features text and sound effects referencing the 2001 Fast and the Furious film. He can also drop the legendary Splatter Gun, an artifact that increases shotgun damage while sliding. His loot pool makes him an excellent mini-boss to farm for an overpowered shotgun build in Borderlands 3.
