After a seven year hiatus from its last game in the franchise, Gearbox developers made sure to stuff Borderlands 3 will references, Easter eggs, and callbacks for players to find. So far, fans have discovered all sorts of secrets, leaving no medium alone from TV to Twitch streamers like DrDisrespect, and much more. The Marvel Universe is also in the game's sights as players recently discovered a new reference to the original Iron Man movie.

Among the billions of possible weapons in Borderlands 3, one player managed to find the legendary rocket launcher known as Annexed Jericho. Featuring radiation elemental damage, the weapon serves as a reference to the original Iron Man movie from 2008. The biggest tell comes from the red flavor text which features the famous line spoken by Robert Downey Jr., playing a pre-Iron Man Tony Stark. During a weapons demonstration, Stark remarks that he prefers a weapon that only needs to be fired once, which is also what is listed on this BL3 weapon.

The other feature Marvel fans may notice is the name of the weapon itself. The Annexed Jericho is a reference to the Jericho rocket launcher, which is the device that Stark was demonstrating in the movie before things went wrong. The weapon in the movie explodes into 16 separate, self-tracking rockets that cause a massive explosion. While the same doesn't exactly happen in Borderlands 3, the Annexed Jericho rocket launcher does have higher than normal splash damage and weapon accuracy, making it a great weapons for clearing out groups of enemies.

Marvel isn't the only comic book company getting featured in the fast selling shooter. DC Comics, home to heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, and others, has also been referenced thanks to its popular character, Batman. Known as the Night Flyer, the legendary pistol seems to resemble the grappling gun that the Caped Crusader typically caries around. However, the red flavor text shows the phrase, I have one rule, which references Batman's belief in not killing his enemies. It's actually quite ironic considering players will be using the weapon to take down all sorts of enemies and creatures like bandits, fanatics, and everything else in between.

Borderlands 3 is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
