Borderlands 4 features fun boss battles that don't just rely on the DPS of players but instead offer unique mechanics to keep the fight refreshing. Idolator Sol is the first Timekeeper's general that players will be facing in the game. While the boss is immune to all damage due to his hardened armor, players will need to find a way to strip away his defenses and make him vulnerable again. Here's how to defeat the Idolator Sol boss, and what type of rewards you can expect after defeating him.
Borderlands 4: How to Replace the Power Core in TASK Master Quest
TASK Master is the final side quest for Kilo that will additionally require players to replace and remove the order pod's power core in Borderlands 4.
Where to Find Idolator Sol Boss in Borderlands 4 (Location)
Players will be facing off against Idolator Sol boss during Rush the Gate, the sixth main mission of Borderlands 4. After leading an assault with the Outbounders to Fortress Indomita, players will make their way through various sections, battling the Timekeeper's soldiers until they finally reach Idolator Sol's ship. After halting the ship's launch, you'll need to infiltrate it and find the boss arena, which won't be that far off.
Once players complete Rush the Gate main mission, they can simply fast travel to Fortress Indomita and head towards the boss room to respawn Idolator Sol via Moxxi's Big Encore machine. The machine takes about 25,000 currency, and it makes it possible to farm the boss repeatedly if you're after a particular weapon or gear that it drops.
After arriving in an open area with two vending machines and a downward slope, make sure to stock up on ammo and other gear before heading down to start the boss encounter. The best weapon to use against Idolator Sol is SMGs or Assault Rifles with the incendiary (fire) element, as it'll be hard to get close to the boss without getting smacked.
How to Beat Idolator Sol Boss in Borderlands 4
Idolator Sol has a hulking body that's covered in armor plating, which is immune to all damage. Players will need to find a way to strip this coating of armor away to expose his true body underneath, which is vulnerable to damage. The boss also has three bars of health, each signifying a phase of the fight. Let's check out all Idolator Sol's attacks first and then cover how you can defeat him.
All Idolator Sol Boss Attacks

Attack Image |
Move Name |
Attack Pattern |
How to Dodge |
|---|---|---|---|
|
|
Shield Bash |
Idolator Sol will wield his shield and charge towards players. |
The boss will charge in a straight line, so simply dodge away from his path. |
|
|
Sword Spin |
The boss will materialize a sword into the air and then swipe it around the arena in a large AOE. |
The AOE of the sword spin attack is too wide for players to run or dodge away from it. Instead, quickly gain height by double-jumping into the air and hovering for a while. |
|
|
Locust Beam |
Idolator Sol will charge up an energy beam into his left hand and shoot at the players. While the direction of the beam is static in the first phase, it'll hone on the player's locations in the later phases. |
In the first phase, players will get visible cues when the boss is charging up the beam, so dodging sideways will work just fine. For the homing variant of the attack, players will need to constantly run sideways to avoid getting hit. |
|
|
Ground Spikes |
The boss will strike its fist into the ground and create spikes that will protrude from the ground. There's another version of this attack that will shatter the ground with Locust energy, but no spikes. |
Similar to Locust Beam, the visual cues for this attack will be clear. So, make sure to jump and then dodge away to create distance between you and the boss. |
|
|
Thunder Call |
During phase 2 of the fight, Idolator Sol will cover the area in Locust energy and raise his hand in the air, about to rain down Locust-infused thunderbolts. |
Players will need to quickly spot the designated glowing area and head inside it to shield themselves from the thunderous attack. |
|
|
Impaler Rods |
Throughout the fight, the boss will bring down a row of red Impaler Rods, with one green rod carrying a Lostcust Canister. As the fight progresses, the rows will increase in number with Phase two having two rows, and phase three calling down three rows of rods. |
This is the easiest attack to dodge as players will see a clear projection of where the rods will fall on the field. This attack is also the primary way to strip away Idolator Sol's armor and make him vulnerble to damage (more on that below). |
Best Strategy to Beat Idolator Sol
The first thing players should do is maintain their distance from Idolator Sol in Borderlands 4. If players get too close to him, they'll stomp his feet into the ground, dealing damage to players. Wait for the boss to trigger the Impaler Rods attack.
Carefully dodge away from the projected area of the rods, and watch for the rod that glows green. Once you find the green rod, use your grapple to get the Locust canister out of it, and throw it at Idolator Sol to strip away the armor coating from the body.
It's recommended to throw the Locust canister at either the area above his torso to expose his head, or the area around his belly to expose green bags on the side. These parts take critical damage, which will be crucial in taking down Idolator Sol faster. Once you've dealt enough damage and burned through three bars of his health, the boss will be defeated.
Here's a video that showcases the whole process of reaching Idolator Sol boss and beating him.
