Fans of the Borderlands franchise are in for a treat when playing Borderlands 4, with four new Vault Hunters to try, and a bazillion guns to loot and shoot. And for those who enjoy playing the story in Solo Mode, but are having doubts about whether to pick the Siren, the Forgeknight, the Gravitar, or the Exo-Soldier, this guide might come in handy.
For those thinking about starting Borderlands 4 as a single player, here's the best class to pick, as well as tons of useful tips on how to start with the right foot and stick that very same foot up the buttocks of all enemies they come across. Get ready to smash, destroy, and loot your way through the planet Kairos.
Borderlands 4 Best Solo Class
The best class for Solo Players is none other than The Siren. Vex has an arsenal of cool powers, from summoning a literal Grim Reaper to slash her foes, to becoming the very avatar of death and using the ridiculously overpowered Eldritch Blast (yes, that's right, like the Warlock from D&D), or summoning a wild Phase Familiar to shred her foes to very tiny pieces. She's a very resourceful character, with a complete kit based on survival, summons, and damage.
With the ability to switch between three different active Abilities, Vex becomes empowered by her Siren Powers and 'Attunes' to elements based on her currently equipped weapon. Kinetic Damage weapons grant her Life Leech, turning her into a literal Vampiress, while Elemental Weapons empower her abilities with powerful Ailments that burn flesh, destroy shields, freeze foes, or melt the strongest armor.
Phase Familiar: Summons Trouble, a creature that Vex can control at will and will follow her all the time, assisting in combat and becoming a 'Badass' when the ability is triggered. Trouble takes on the properties of the Weapon that Vex is using (Attunement): Blue for Shock, Purple for Kinetic, Red for Fire, Green for Caustic, Yellow for Radiation, and so on.
Incarnate: Causes Vex to sprout Phase Wings and release a powerful blast of energy (depending on her Attunement) and restores her Health to maximum instantaneously. While Vex is empowered by Incarnate, she can use Eldritch Blast every few seconds to blast her foes away with the sheer power of the Void. She also gains increased movement speed. This ability can be further improved to empower Life Leech, Elemental Damage, or Cause Bleed on enemies, and grant her Overshield.
Death Ringer: Vex Summons two clones of herself, either a Reaper (wields a Scythe) or a Specter (uses a rifle), to attack her enemies. Phase Clones have limited life, but can be re-summoned as the ability recharges. It is the most 'spammy' of Vex's skills, and one of the recommended for beginners. The clones can be further improved by extending their duration, granting Vex bonuses like Regeneration and damage, and empowering her even more damage when any of the clones die.
As players can see, she has three different play styles (namely Beast Tamer, Summoner /Necromancer, and Witch), but all three of them have one thing in common: Elemental Attunement.
Tips For Playing as Vex in Solo Mode
Vex is squishy at first, but it snowballs really fast, starting at level 10, when she unlocks her tier 2 and 3 passives. In terms of difficulty, her skill trees are mostly focused on survivability and her Attunement main Trait, meaning that players will have to learn how to wield her Phase Powers and the elemental Attunement at the same time if they want to thrive. Here are a few tips for playing as Vex in Solo Mode:
- Use a wide variety of Elemental weapons to take advantage of Vex's Attunement ability.
- Start with Phase Familiar in the Early levels to make leveling easier, then switch to Death Ringer for the challenging bosses.
- Use Incarnate in the later stages of the game, when Vex is truly powerful and has enough Skill Points to make the most out of her survivability passives.
- Pick Main Passive skills like Energy Vampire and Coven to grant Vex more survivability.
- Choose Throwing Knives as Ordnance to grant her a fast way to deal critical damage to enemies, and leave them exposed in case she needs a 'Second Chance.'
