Borderlands 4 features a multitude of Legendary SMGs for players to hunt, and we've compiled the best of the bunch so you know where to get them for your builds. Boasting a high fire rate and decent magazine size, these lightweight weapons will allow you to stay on the move as you run and gun your way through Kairos. SMGs can make builds a lot of fun due to their versatility, especially with the selection provided that has some truly OP stats and modifiers. Check out the best Legendary SMGs and where to get them in Borderlands 4 below!
Ohm I Got
How to Get Ohm I Got in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from Bramblesong, the boss found within "Bittervein", the Abandoned Auger Mine in Stoneblood Forest, Terminus Range
- Energy Transfer - When Energy Shield is active, grants +50% Damage by consuming the Shield's energy instead of Ammo. When Overshield is also active, Energy Shield will not deplete.
Players shouldn't just hunt for Ohm I Got because of the fact that it's a literal Ghostbusters weapon due to its Proton Pack firing method. Ohm I Got is extremely fun and super effective against Shields thanks to the fact that it fires a beam of continuing Shock to annihilate enemies with blue health bars. Ohm I Got also has a special perk in which players with Shields can get a +50% Damage buff, along with infinite ammo, as the gun will consume the Shield instead. Players should combine Ohm I Got with a competent Shock build to really see the benefits so that they can zap to the extreme.
Luty Madlad
How to Get Luty Madlad in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from Mimicron, the boss at the "Tipping Point" Order Bunker in Idolator's Noose, Fadefields
- Homemade Ingenuity - Overheats quickly, but also Cools down quickly
Luty Madland is another weapon that features a CoV-Licensed Magazine, meaning that it may have an unlimited Magazine size, but it will heat up and eventually need to cool down before it is fired again. For players who like this magazine style and pair it well with some of their builds, then they should give Luty Madland a go for its extra bonuses. This weapon may overheat quickly, but it cools down quickly too, meaning it's a balance of firing, waiting, firing some more, and waiting a little bit. It's an SMG that's a tad weird, but also a tad fun, so give farming a bit of a go to see what you think of it.
Darkbeast
How to Get Darkbeast in Borderlands 4
- How to Get Farmed from Voraxis (Quake Thresher), located at "Timid Kyle's Neglected Opening", an Abandoned Auger Mine in Coastal Bonescape, Fadefields
- Parley - Bullets pierce enemies, and have a 5% Chance when hitting an enemy to cause an explosion that deals Damage.
Darkbeast is one of the best Legendary SMGs for a reason. Not only will it pierce enemies, meaning it penetrates through the toughest of them, but it also has a 5% Chance to cause an explosion with each bullet. With a fast rate of fire and a decent magazine size, players can expect those explosions to go off quite a lot, even if it appears as just a 5% Chance. The explosions themselves are also very powerful indeed, as are the bullets fired. However, players will have to deal with the Ripper-Licensed Magazine, meaning it needs to be charged before firing in Full Auto.
Hellfire
How to Get Hellfire in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from Skyspanner Kratch, a boss in Cuspid Climb, Terminus Range, available after the Main Mission "Shadow of the Mountain"
- Burning Desire
If players want to bring their enemies to the depths of Hell, then at least make them burn with Hellfire. This appropriately named SMG is great for its high ammo capacity and DPS from the Ripper manufacturer, and what really seals this weapon's fate as a fiery beast is the Burning Desire perk that it comes with. With Burning Desire, players will deal high Incendiary damage than other weapons could, meaning that setting enemies on fire rewards them with higher tick damage, so be sure to combine this with a build that grants bonuses from Status Effect Chance and Status Effect Damage to really make the enemies of Kairos feel the heat.
Birt's Bees
How to Get Birt's Bees in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from Sludgemaw, a boss in Idolator's Noose, Fadefields, but only after completing "All Charged Up", an Outbounders Faction Mission available after the campaign
- Hivemind
Birt's Bees is a Kinetic weapon from Vladof that isn't the most special, but it is rather fun. It's always reliable thanks to its Hivemind perk, which basically means that the bullet will hone in on enemies, like auto-aim. Bullets will fire slowly from the gun and seek out a target to sting them like a bee, and with nearly 50 bullets in a magazine, players are going to be constantly spitting out a barrage of deadly bees that can sting enemies to death.
Onslaught
How to Get Onslaught in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from Idolator Sol, located at Fortress Indomita in Idolator's Noose, Fadefields. Available after the Main Mission "Rush the Gate".
- Keep It Coming - There's a 30% Chance for every bullet fired to deal extra Damage and not consume Ammo
Onslaught is a true hero among the other Legendary SMGs. While this gun doesn't see any special effects or Stack bonuses to make it stand out, it keeps things simple, but provides just enough that it's oh, so fun. Onslaught has plenty of ammo in the magazine before it needs to cool down due to its CoV-Licensed Magazine, but players can negate that cooldown, since every bullet fired has a 30% Chance to return to the magazine and deal extra Damage. An SMG with a decent fire rate that will basically never need to be reloaded, and deals more Damage simply by firing it? It's best to take this gamble any day.
Kaoson
How to Get Kaoson in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from Primordial Guardian Origo, located at the Arch of Origo in The Low Leys, Terminus Range, after finding all 3 Terminus Range Vault Key Fragments
- Granted
What was once a Dahl SMG, is now a Vladof one, and it sure does hit hard due to its synergy with Torgue to provide a Sticky Magazine of explosive potential. Kaoson is a sticky grenade SMG, meaning the shots players land on targets will stick before detonating, unleashing a blast of explosives. With most magazine sizes for the Kaoson hitting 25, that's 25 little explosions that can gain easy crit damage. This works wonderfully with builds set up for Explosive and Kinetic Damage, as no element is required here to make the Kaoson hit like a nuke, just a fast trigger finger.
Plasma Coil
How to Get Plasma Coil in Borderlands 4
- How to Get: Farmed from The Timekeeper, located in Upper Dominion, Terminus District, Dominion. Available after the Main Mission "The Timekeeper's Order"
- Superheated
Another returning Legendary weapon comes to Borderlands 4, and this one combines the elements for a charming and powerfully good time. The Plasma Coil is going to take some effort to get, since the final boss is required from the main story. Outside of the farming method, and to those lucky enough to grab one, they can enjoy the switching perks of Shock and Radiation, along with a weapon that fires in a burst mode to help their accuracy. With a fast rate of fire and a rapid reload, players are always shooting at their enemies with this strong gun, but just beware of its bullet speed, which is a tad slower than most.
