While the famed Scooter might be gone, and his Catch-a-Rides absent from Borderlands 4, the ability to digi-struct a new vehicle, drive into psychos, and boost off of cliffs has never been more alive. Borderlands 4 takes the series to an open-world setting, and since players aren't going to want to run and jump everywhere, it's worth knowing when in Borderlands 4 you can pick up your first vehicle, and what it can do. Below, players will find exactly how to get a vehicle in Borderlands 4, and how soon into their Vault Hunter adventure that will be.

How to Get Your First Vehicle in Borderlands 4

When Can You Get a Vehicle in Borderlands 4?

Players can get their first vehicle in Borderlands 4 via the 3rd main mission, Down and Outbound. This will immediately become available after the starting mission, Recruitment Drive, where they meet Claptrap. Players should focus on completing Down and Outbound first, as while the map does open up and allow players to explore, this is an extremely early-game mission that will be easy to complete, and will allow players to use the vehicle from anywhere on the map by pressing X on the keyboard and Left D-Pad on the controller.

The vehicle that players are able to summon has a limited amount of health and isn't the best at fighting back with its interchangeable rockets and turrets. However, it's great for high-speed adventures across the map with its boost, jump ability, and drift slide.

There are additional vehicles that players can unlock via story missions and challenges, but these are purely cosmetic and offer no change in performance outside of the visual flair.
