Borderlands 4 Level Cap, Explained
What's the Highest Level You Can Get in Borderlands 4?
The level cap in Borderlands 4 is Level 50, and it will take a lengthy amount of time before players manage to hit this cap. Even with the story complete, players will need to complete almost every side mission in order to hit the max level in Borderlands 4. The leveling system works identically to previous games in which players need XP, obtained through eliminations and quest completions. Levels grant players a Skill Point, but it's worth noting that Borderlands 4 changes the formula by providing players with Skill Points from Level 1, instead of waiting until Level 5. This means that players can invest a total of 50 skills.
Just because players have reached the Level cap, doesn't mean that the buildcrafting stops there. In fact, Borderlands 4 features Specializations, which is a unique XP bar that goes well beyond 50. Specializations are unlocked after the main story has been completed, and they work identically to the XP earned from levels to grant a Specialization Point that can passively upgrade your health, damage, and other stats. As far as we are aware, there is no cap to Specialization, so players can continue to level it up to grow stronger.
Will the Level Cap in Borderlands 4 Increase?
Like all previous Borderlands games, the level cap may have started at Level 50, but that doesn't mean it's permanent. Outside of the base game, DLCs in Borderlands games provide a total of 72 Levels. While Borderlands 4 won't have expansion upon release, 2 DLC story packs are planned, and it's expected that the Level cap will increase alongside it.
