Borderlands 4 players on consoles have been running into performance issues, but there is a way to fix things, at least temporarily. Borderlands 4's launch has been a mixed bag. While the game has earned mostly positive reviews from critics and many have hailed it as one of the better entries in the long-running looter-shooter series, it's also suffered from some unfortunate technical hiccups.
It seems most of the Borderlands 4 technical problems are specific to the PC version of the game. The Borderlands 4 PC issues have caused serious backlash, with Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford telling Steam users to get a refund if they're unhappy with it. Unfortunately, the PC version of Borderlands 4 isn't the only one with issues. Borderlands 4 console players have also run into some problems, with the game seemingly performing worse the longer it's played.
Borderlands 4's Review-Bombing Explained
Despite positive reviews from critics and fans, Borderlands 4 is getting review-bombed on Steam due to its hefty required specs and technical issues.
How to Fix Borderlands 4 Console Performance
The Borderlands 4 console issues were recently acknowledged by Pitchford on Twitter. Pitchford recommended that Borderlands 4 console players should quit the game and restart if they start running into performance issues. Pitchford specifically called out the PS5 Pro version of the game when offering this recommendation, but players on other consoles have reported performance problems as well. Browsing online posts about the Borderlands 4 performance issues, it does seem that restarting the game does work wonders. It's not convenient, but it should work as a temporary solution while fans wait for a more permanent fix from Gearbox.
In the meantime, there are other ways for Borderlands 4 players to improve the console experience. Reddit user Buddy_Kryyst has sussed out the ideal Borderlands 4 settings for consoles, recommending that users change all Horizontal and Vertical sensitivity levels to 2, cursor speed to 0.5, and cursor friction to 0.5. They also recommend all Deadzone settings be set to 1% and 0.5, and that grapple view tilt is turned off and camera head-bob is set to greater than 75%.
Another way to potentially improve Borderlands 4 performance on consoles is to change Session Settings to Local Only, but this means you can't play online with friends.
Another recommendation is to turn on Borderlands 4's radar. By default, Borderlands 4 players only have a compass at the top of their screen, but there is an option to toggle on a radar. It's not quite the same as the classic mini-game, but it's better than nothing.
It will be interesting to see how Borderlands 4 evolves with future updates. Perhaps a proper mini-map will be added, or maybe Borderlands 4 console players will get their FOV slider. Time will tell, but fans can rest assured that more updates for the game are on the way.
