Borderlands 4's Creative Director has advised players to exercise caution when using the game's new dialog skip mod on PC. It seems that Borderlands 4 has some elements under the hood that could cause players' games to break as a result of using such a mod.
This new Borderlands 4 mod is titled Dialog Skipper, and was released on Nexus Mods by Yeti and itzSmugg on October 8. It does exactly what the name suggests, allowing players to hit a single key to skip any line of dialog in the game. While not ideal for a first playthrough, it can help with replayability, especially for those who want to level up multiple Vault Hunters to Level 50. In just a few days, Dialog Skipper has already racked up over 1,000 downloads on Nexus Mods, but it seems those using it could be putting their saves at risk.

A Borderlands 4 dev reveals that changes are on the way for some of the game's best builds.
Borderlands 4 Dialog Skipper Mod Could Break Games When Used
Over on X, Borderlands 4 Creative Director Graeme Timmins acknowledged the existence of Dialog Skipper, advising players to "be cautious" using it. According to Timmins, this is because "skipping dialog could lead to broken mission states that might not be recoverable," claiming it "is way more involved and riskier than it appears on the surface with how dialog is integrated within our mission system." So, yes, while Dialogue Skipper does work, it seems that every line skip is a lottery, and players are risking their Borderlands 4 story progress every time.
Equally, there are many players who are aware of this risk and will be happy to progress accordingly, which is fair, too. The responses to Timmins' post indicate that an official version of this feature would certainly be welcomed by the community, but the technical feasibility of it remains unclear. If it's going to happen (and there's no indication that it will), it will certainly be in a distant Borderlands 4 update.
Despite a lack of official modding tools, the Borderlands 4 modding community is already off to an interesting start. The series has never been famed for having particularly large modding scenes, but there will always be some interest in a franchise as massive as Borderlands. There have already been quite a few great Borderlands 4 gameplay mods to adjust the experience, so it will be interesting to follow how the community develops over time.
