The new Borderlands 4 update has quietly hidden away a quality-of-life change that automatically unlocks Faction Towns and other Fast Travel points on creation of a new Level 30 character. This change is perfect for Borderlands 4 veterans who are looking to create a new character after completing the game for the first time.
Ever since its launch, Borderlands 4 has faced criticism for its new character experience. Those who have completed the game's campaign can immediately start a fresh new character at Level 30, but the lack of progression carry-over was something of a sore spot for players. Notably, players would be forced to re-unlock the entire world map, including major Faction Towns. Players restarting at Level 30 aren't exactly there to redo much of the busy work involved in a first playthrough, leading to calls for this to be changed.

Gearbox releases three new SHiFT codes for Borderlands 4, which can be redeemed for Golden Keys.
Borderlands 4 Unlocks Some Fast Travel Points For New Level 30 Characters
X user TweetyExpert noticed that the latest Borderlands 4 update quietly made a change to ensure Faction Towns and some other Fast Travel points are automatically unlocked when creating a new Level 30 character. This is a huge quality-of-life change for veteran players who just want to quickly dive into a fresh Vault Hunter without needing to rediscover many of the game's most important areas.
While TweetyExpert says that this change isn't listed in Borderlands 4's latest patch notes, there is a mention that "various Fast Travel stations have been adjusted to unlock when they’re intended to." This doesn't explicitly say that this is relevant to new Level 30 Borderlands 4 Vault Hunters, but in practice, this is seemingly what Gearbox was referencing. Still, the vague wording might be why many players didn't immediately notice such an important change.
Following the latest Borderlands 4 balance update, Gearbox is continuing to tweak the small details to refine the experience. However, the developer is also continuing to work on Borderlands 4's post-launch content, with the first major story DLC expected at the start of 2026. Borderlands 4 is already an excellent game, and it looks set to be an exciting few months for fans.
