Borderlands 4 could get an FOV slider on console, according to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. However, Pitchford also claims that there might be something related to Borderlands 4 in development that could affect "fairness" if an FOV slider was implemented, so it's not a guarantee.
Despite problems with the Steam version of Borderlands 4, the latest iteration of the iconic looter-shooter series launched to stellar reviews, with a Top Critic Average of 85 on review aggregator site OpenCritic. However, there was one notable omission that console players immediately noticed. An FOV slider was not included on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, despite the feature existing on PC. This led to some players sharing their frustrations online, which have already made their way back to Gearbox's CEO.

Borderlands 4's new farming upgrade and revamped level-scaling system make legendary farming more accessible and engaging than ever, even early on.
Randy Pitchford Polls Borderlands 4 Console FOV Slider on X
In a post on X, Pitchford held a poll about the possibility of an FOV slider being added to Borderlands 4's settings menu on console. At the time of writing, the poll had 91.7% of over 19,000 votes for the two answers in favor of the feature, with 8.3% voting to indicate their indifference towards it. This is a huge majority wanting FOV settings added to Borderlands 4, although there's no actual guarantee that Gearbox will act on this poll.
This is because, according to Pitchford, he has "dreams... Where an FOV setting might affect fairness," but admits he wants "to commit to and prioritize what Borderlands should be versus try to turn it into something." It's not clear at all what Pitchford means by this, although the concept of "fairness" suggests it could be a multiplayer component. However, there's nothing in Borderlands 4's current post-launch roadmap that suggests this is on the way. It's also uncertain why fairness is an issue on consoles, even while the PC version of the game already has an FOV slider.
Borderlands 4 is already a big hit for Gearbox, with solid reviews and a high player count indicating a return to form for the series. Now, attention will hopefully turn towards addressing fan concerns, such as the lack of a console FOV slider or the ongoing PC performance issues.
