Borderlands 4 has smashed a franchise record by generating the highest launch month dollar sales of any game across the series' history. In doing so, Borderlands 4 takes the crown from the previous mainline game in the series, Borderlands 3.
Last month, Borderlands 4 received critical acclaim and was instantly regarded as a return to form for the franchise. After a more middling reception to Borderlands 3, it was a welcome return for the long-running looter-shooter franchise, and gamers repaid that quality by coming back to the series in droves. While performance issues did tarnish the experience for some players, the underlying game proved to be enough for players to be impressed with Gearbox's Borderlands effort this time around.

Borderlands 4 Enjoys Highest Launch Month Dollar Sales in Franchise History
According to Circana games industry analyst Mat Piscatella on Bluesky, Borderlands 4 has generated the "highest launch month dollar sales of any title in franchise history," and it wasn't exactly close. In its launch month, it beat its predecessor Borderlands 3 by "nearly 30%." It also now holds the unique distinction of being the "first Borderlands title to launch as the best-selling game of its release month," a testament to Borderlands 4's strong sales.

Piscatella was unable to provide an estimated dollar amount for Borderlands 4's first month, just that it was the highest in the series' history. Prior to the game's release, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford made some big Borderlands 4 sales predictions, and it seems that the game is well on track to live up to high expectations.
Despite Borderlands 4's initial sales being strong, Gearbox is showing no signs of complacency, with tons of updates and an exciting post-launch roadmap indicating the direction the game is headed. Last month, Borderlands 4's first post-launch Vault Hunter was revealed, which will arrive early next year and add a brand-new way to play the game. After a good start, it's set to be an exciting few months for the game.
