Borderlands 4's patch notes for October 9 outline what to expect from its next one, which will take place on October 16 based on the patch history. That day is the one many Vex players have dreaded for some time now, as it means her Infinite Bleed Build will be fixed when the Borderlands 4 patch drops.
This Vex nerf for Borderlands 4 follows a patch where all the Vault Hunters were buffed, and it's long been understood that the build was unintentionally broken. Gearbox has long said it would eventually adjust it, and now it has confirmed that "eventually" means October 16.
The Borderlands 4 update for October 9 states that, next week, Gearbox will "address unintended interactions in certain Vault Hunter skills" while also making a variety of adjustments to Class Mods, Repkits, Shields, Firmware, melee builds, and other deficient Vault Hunter builds. While not outright stated, it's clear that Gearbox is referencing Vex's Bloodletter Skill. In short, when combined with a Throwing Knife that has the Penetrator Augment, the two create an infinite damage combo that can kill enemies in one hit when done right. There is some fluctuation to it, but that can also be overcome based on Borderlands 4's Specialization points and other interactions. It was never meant to be as powerful as it is, but fans can expect a new reality when the next patch drops.
Vex's Infinite Bleed Build
- The Bloodletter skill should be maxed out (with Vex's Class Mods on top of it).
- Players use the Throwing Knife with a Penetrator Augment to trigger enemies.
- Shots thereafter crit and trigger bleed.
- The Contamination Skill goes a long way in making the build more viable and trustworthy.
Vex Players Have a Short Time to Enjoy Her Full Power
While the upcoming nerf is unfortunate, it's worth mentioning that the October 2 patch accidentally nerfed Vex's build anyway. It impacted how Status Damage would trigger, but for the most part, it didn't do too much to discourage the build. However, with the October 9 patch, Gearbox has rolled back this change and fixed Status Damage. In other words, Vex's Infinite Bleed Build is at 100% power for the next week instead of 90%. Fans who enjoy the build in its current state should spend as much time with it as they can.
It remains to be seen how heavily this Borderlands 4 update nerfs Vex, but the fact is, many folks don't want her nerfed. The entire build really hinges on the Throwing Knife, but it's not easy to obtain. I run this build with my Vex, and I can easily say it took me at least 10 hours of grinding and hoping to find it. This is on four-player co-op with my buddies, who were looking out for it too. Because it is world loot in Borderlands 4, there are a few tricks to try to narrow it down, but no guaranteed way to get it. If players are not looking for it, it is easily overlooked as well.
For example, some players report that the red chests with Driller Hole made it easier for them to find. However, this still requires hours of grinding.
Hopefully, Gearbox's nerf brings the Infinite Bleed Build more in line with Vex's option builds, as well as builds for Amon, Rafa, and Harlowe. It should still be super powerful, though not completely broken, but fans can enjoy it for now and figure out which way the wind blows on October 16.
