Gearbox’s latest patch for Borderlands 4 is surprisingly ambitious, addressing a wide range of fixes and quality-of-life improvements. The biggest surprise, however, is that of all the changes — bug fixes, ability balancing, even a console FOV slider — the one that manages to stand above the rest is a simple weapon buff. Particularly, a manufacturer-wide buff that reinvigorates Tediore weapons in Borderlands 4.

Borderlands’ weapon manufacturers have never been created equal, and Tediore has long been seen as the butt of the joke, both intentionally and otherwise. It’s characterized as the cheap choice in-universe, but it’s also often considered one of the weaker manufacturers by players, too. With Borderlands 4’s September 2025 update, Tediore guns hit harder than ever, and that has significant implications for their patented throw-and-explode playstyle.

Borderlands 4 Update Starts Tediore’s Redemption Arc

BL4 Tediore Chuck rifle

Tediore weapons got a +10% boost to both damage and magazine size in the new update. While it may seem strange on the surface, the most exciting beneficiary of this buff is ‘Chuck’, a Borderlands 4 Legendary assault rifle that embodies everything wild about the brand. Chuck’s special effect, Pitcher, causes the weapon to be thrown like a grenade when the trigger is pulled. While the unique trait means Chuck might not be taking advantage of the extra mag size, that extra damage undoubtedly packs a punch. When paired with the right gear, Chuck can be a bit of a monster.

Chuck can be found dropped by Fractis, boss of the Crawlcroft in Carcadia Burn, one of Borderlands 4's Order Bunkers.

That’s because Chuck works particularly well on Vault Hunters like Borderlands 4's Rafa, due to his Grenazerker class mod. Grenazerker spawns an additional grenade or thrown Tediore gun when equipped, and it can transform Chuck into a centerpiece for a seriously wild, seriously strong build. The damage buff gives any Vault Hunter using Chuck even more room to scale, though, especially in content where crowd control and burst damage are essential.

New Borderlands 4 Update Is A Huge Win for Console Players

While Tediore dominates the update’s gameplay changes, the runner-up highlight of the September update is meaningful primarily for those on console. A Field of View slider, a feature console fans have requested since launch, has been added to Xbox and PlayStation. This is a godsend, as Borderlands 4' s default FOV often left the game feeling cramped.

Gearbox noted that increasing FOV can cause performance dips for Borderlands 4 on consoles.

For many, this update makes the title playable on console in a way it wasn’t before. Expanding the view not only makes the player feel faster but also enhances overall visibility, especially in chaotic firefights. While Borderlands 4's performance issues remain a thorn in the side of many players, the option to fine-tune FOV is a much-needed step forward.

Other Borderlands 4 Weapon Adjustments

Splashzone is Borderlands 4's best legendary farm.

Tediore weapons aren’t the only ones seeing improvements. The Hellwalker Legendary shotgun now always drops in the fire element instead of kinetic, trading in universal appeal for greater value in specific use cases. Meanwhile, the Fisheye Legendary sniper rifle received a straightforward damage increase. Though perhaps not as big a win as Tediore, these changes support Gearbox’s new approach to Borderlands 4’s balance, one focused on buffing the weak instead of nerfing the strong.

Borderlands 4's Weekly Activities also saw their rotation updated, with the weekly Big Encore Boss changed to Core Observer in the Fadefields. The Weekly Wildcard mission reward is the Symmetry Legendary sniper rifle, and Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine has also shifted locations once again. This time, it can be found in Carcadia Burn, not too far from the region’s Primordial Vault.

Future Borderlands 4 Updates Should Take Notes

Weapon balance is important, but the patch also contains a laundry list of fixes many players deem necessary for the game's success. Stability improvements target persistent issues like stuttering and crashes, and some mission glitches that impeded progress have been remedied. If Gearbox can maintain a steady pace with updates like this, Borderlands 4 may yet secure the long-term success it needs.
