Summary
- Borderlands 4 won't feature all previous weapon manufacturers, including popular ones like Atlas and Dahl.
- The game will feature eight primary weapon manufacturers.
- Some missing weapon manufacturers may be featured through the Licensed Parts system.
It's been confirmed that the upcoming Borderlands 4 will not be bringing back all the weapon manufacturers from previous games in the series. Borderlands 4 has been highly-anticipated by fans of Gearbox's co-op FPS franchise since it was first announced, but they just recently got a deep dive into what to expect from the game.
Borderlands 4 received its very own PlayStation State of Play event that pulled the curtain back on what the new game is bringing to the table. The State of Play showcased impressive gameplay footage, revealed the Borderlands 4 Vault Hunters, and confirmed other interesting details about the game. Notably, the eight primary weapon manufacturers for Borderlands 4 were revealed, though some fan favorites are missing from the lineup.
Why Borderlands 4's New Planet Could Be a Double-Edged Sword
Borderlands 4's new planet Kairos may come with the upside of being fresh territory for players to explore, but it might also present a big downside.
The Borderlands 4 weapon manufacturers are Order, Ripper, Daedalus, Tediore, Maliwan, Jakobs, Vladof, and Torgue. As revealed by PlayStation, Order guns are focused on high-powered bursts, Ripper guns can charge to be fully automatic, Daedalus guns feature multiple ammo types, Tediore guns can be reloaded by throwing them like grenades, Maliwan guns specialize in elemental damage, Jakobs guns ricochet, Vladof guns have high rates of fire and large magazines, and Torgue guns feature explosive rounds and sticky projectiles. Missing from the lineup are popular Borderlands weapon manufacturers from previous games like Atlas, COV, Dahl, and Hyperion.

Borderlands 4 fans have had a mixed reaction to the missing weapon manufacturers. There are some fans that have expressed their dismay that weapon manufacturers like Dahl are missing from the Borderlands 4 lineup, but others don't seem concerned. Some pointed out that Borderlands 4 features a new Licensed Parts system that lets players mix-and-match abilities from different weapon manufacturers into a single weapon, with a Hyperion-issued shield spotted in the latest footage, even though Hyperion isn't one of the main manufacturers in the new game. This opens the door to the other missing weapon manufacturers having some kind of representation in Borderlands 4, but that remains to be seen.
Luckily, Borderlands fans won't have to wait as long as originally thought to play the new game. Borderlands 4 recently shifted its release date from September 23 to September 12, with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford denying that the change had anything to do with the yet-to-be-announced GTA 6 release date. It should be noted that the Borderlands 4 September 12 release date only applies to the PC, PS5, and Xbox versions of the game. While it's possible that the Borderlands 4 Switch 2 port will release on that day as well, that has yet to be clarified at the time of this writing.
