Borderlands 4 players are running into a frustrating issue when battling World Bosses scattered around the map, with the enemies completely despawning after moving too far away. Alongside a big open world to traverse, players can come across World Bosses along their travels in Borderlands 4, and while there's premium loot to be had for taking one down, some players are running into a frustrating problem.
While Borderlands 4 has seen a very strong launch, it hasn't been immune to its own issues, especially with many of its newer mechanics and features. Recently, one player came across a Borderlands 4 glitch that removed their skill points and equipped action skill. Others have found ways to break the game, including an Infinite Damage build that can melt bosses as the Siren class, Vex. Unfortunately, players have found another issue which makes fighting world bosses a delicate affair.

Borderlands 4 World Bosses Can Despawn Very Easily
Rift or World Bosses in Borderlands 4 are one-off encounters that are not repeatable like the story bosses from Moxxi's Big Encore. Typically, players can encounter them in the open world via a rift that transforms into a dome once activated. Players are then locked in combat with the boss and, should they leave the dome or die, the encounter ends without the ability to retry. As players have started to realize, it's very easy to leave the dome's radius, as highlighted by a new clip from a Reddit user named full-mind76.
After nearly finishing off the Callous Harbinger of Annihilating Death in the Coastal Bonescape, full-mind76 moves back to avoid an incoming attack, though the game determines that they left the domed area which completely despawns the boss, right before they're defeated and drop some potential Legendary or valuable Borderlands 4 loot. The post has picked up traction, with others leaving comments of similar situations happening to them, frustrated that Gearbox didn't add some sort of warning or 5-second countdown to allow players to move back inside. Another user said to make the dome solid, similar to a cage match, where you either win or die before the encounter ends.
Outside the game itself, Gearbox's CEO Randy Pitchford has found himself at the center of a number of controversies with fans of the franchise. Prior to launch, Pitchford suggested that true fans would find a way to buy the game, before Borderlands 4's price was revealed. More recently, PC players have continued to criticize Borderlands 4's technical and performance issues, to which Pitchford responded to one fan telling them to code their own engine and that those who were unhappy should submit a refund request through Steam. Ultimately, Pitchford has been fairly vocal in saying that Borderlands 4 is a "premium game for premium gamers" and that the game won't run as well on older hardware, though some have indicated they meet the minimum requirements and still run into problems..
