The announcement of a new Marvel game from Skydance New Media was as surprising as it was exciting. Outside of the controversies surrounding Marvel's Avengers, Marvel games like Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy have been very well-received. Needless to say, expectations are high for Skydance's mysterious project. Now one of the new Marvel game's first castmates has announced their participation and is likely to raise expectations even higher for the game.
Gavankar's announcement confirmed that she's taking part in the upcoming Marvel game from Skydance, but she doesn't go so far as sharing any spoilers. Her role in the game, how prominent her character will be, and how much work she's done, if any, remains unsaid. Skydance hasn't announced what the game will be, after all, so Gavankar announcing her character would likely ruin the fun.
Joining the cast of Skydance New Media's upcoming Marvel game is Janina Gavankar. Gavankar is an industry veteran with experience in film, television, and video game voice work. Her most prominent video game role is likely as Star Wars: Battlefront 2 single-player campaign protagonist Iden Versio. She's also had roles in video games including Horizon: Zero Dawn, Afterparty, and Far Cry 4. What may be Gavankar's most exciting work is yet to come, however, as she's cast as the villain Tanta Sila in Square Enix's upcoming Forspoken RPG.
Gavankar also has another major video game-related role coming up, but it's not for an actual game nor is it voice work. Gavankar has been cast in the upcoming Borderlands movie, currently planned to be released in 2022. Her role isn't what many might expect, either. She'll be playing Commander Knoxx, a new character that'll still be familiar to Borderlands players. The original General Knoxx was a villain in the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC, with Gavankar playing his daughter in the new movie.
There are some rumors going around that Skydance's Marvel game is Daredevil, which makes for some interesting possibilities for Gavankar's casting. For example, she could take on the role of Elektra, Typhoid Mary, or any number of other doomed women who make the mistake of having a relationship with Daredevil in the comics.
It's only a matter of time before Skydance starts to share more information about its in-development project. It may be a young studio and the project may only just be getting started, but with high-profile industry leaders like Amy Hennig leading development there's going to be a lot of attention on the game. Gavankar's casting makes the wait for more information all the more torturous.
Skydance's Marvel game is currently in development.
