Summary

  • NPCs like Tina, Moxxi, and Hammerlock add depth and humor to Borderlands, stealing the spotlight from the main characters.
  • These iconic characters could potentially lead or feature as playable in a future Borderlands game, bringing unique traits and skills.
  • Characters like Mr. Torgue and Captain Scarlett, with their eccentricities and skills, could offer new and entertaining gameplay experiences.

Borderlands isn’t afraid to get weird and chaotic, and as the world of Pandora expands, so does a cast of incredibly fascinating NPCs that elevate the Borderlands games to new degrees of fun. Whilst the main focus of the Borderlands series has always been on its Vault Hunters, weapons, and the leading villain, sometimes the NPCs that inhabit this world can’t help but steal the show.

It would be great if a potential Borderlands 4 or another Borderlands spin-off game saw these iconic NPCs lead the charge, or even feature as playable to allow players to immerse themselves in their shoes and relish in what makes them so dangerous, yet so much fun.

6 Tina

A Dangerous And Deranged Demoltions Expert

  • Introduced in: Borderlands 2

Tina is a prime example of the potential that Pandora can bring out. She might not be the future of science or a leader who can bring peace to the universe, but she’s pretty good with explosives, a master of all things mayhem. Tina made a strong first impression in Borderlands 2 with her wacky raps and affinity for blowing up bandits, playing a role-playing game, and eating nothing but crumpets.

Tina is a hilarious character, and definitely acts as the franchise’s strong point, especially since she’s grown up across entries. Tina’s evolution from a child to an adult makes her the perfect candidate for a future Vault Hunter, especially when she has grown up knowing all about Vaults from her friends and mentors.

5 Mad Moxxi

The Sadistic And Lustful Dame Who Enjoys Violence And Love

  • Introduced in: Borderlands

Moxxi has been with the Borderlands series since the first game, and ever since, the world has been populated with her children and former husbands. Moxxi is anything but modest, but that’s what makes her so fun. She loves to love and be loved, and she most certainly loves a good bout of violence and mayhem.

It would be fun to see Moxxi’s fighting skills in her youth, or even see her come out of retirement and become another champion for Vault Hunters, one who isn’t afraid to present some style with her violence. She’s friendly, fun, and extremely protective over her children, so the loss of Scooter might awaken something in her.

4 Sir Hammerlock

An Extremely Polite And Successful Hunter

Sir Hammerlock (Borderlands)

  • Introduced in: Borderlands 2

Sir Alistair Hammerlock is at the service of those who are kind to him, and he spends his days on Pandora cataloging beasts and unsavory types. Sir Hammerlock is extremely sophisticated, and his British charm definitely highlights his character, making him a potentially great choice for a playable character due to the one-liners and quips at his disposal for that famed wit.

Borderlands
Borderlands: Every LGBTQ+ Character In The Franchise

The LGBTQ+ community is incredibly underrepresented, but thankfully games like Borderlands work towards changing that.

Hammerlock is an important character that has appeared in various Borderlands games and DLCs, and every Vault Hunter needs a reasonable and educated Hammerlock in their corner, even if this one can lose his temper a tad. Hammerlock’s desire for wealth could see him ease out of cowardly tendencies to become a Vault Hunter.

3 Mr. Torgue

Torgue’s Founder, Who Loves Shouting And Badassitude

Mr Torgue Borderlands
  • Introduced in: Borderlands 2

Mister Torgue is the most electrifying man in combat entertainment, and his muscles, fame, and claim, all bolster that fact. Mr. Torgue is hilarious, and his muscular physique and love of all things badass would cement him as a perfect pick for a potential future playable character in the Borderlands series.

Mr. Torgue could even have a unique set of skills that see him benefit from using Torgue-manufactured weapons. The loud voice that never stops shouting makes for hilarious lines, and his affinity for explosions and pop culture makes him a muscle-head that knows no limits.

2 Marcus Kincaid

A Greedy Arms Dealer Whose Loyalty Lies With Money

  • Introduced in: Borderlands

Marcus Kincaid isn’t exactly the kindest person people will come across, but he does treat everyone equally. If people have money, then Marcus is a helpful vendor, who will try to sell weapons to anyone, whether they are friends or foes. The former husband of Mad Moxxi is also responsible for telling various stories regarding Vaults and the Vault Hunters, so his knowledge would make sense if he was secretly one himself.

Marcus could easily have a side hustle that sees him return to the world of Vault Hunting, all whilst his profits tend to themselves in his no-refund policy gun stores and weapon vending machines. Marcus’ back-stabbing and greedy attitude would make him an interesting pick to play.

1 Captain Scarlett

An Untrustworthy Pirate With An Honesty Streak

  • Introduced in: Borderlands 2

Captain Scarlett was the first antagonist of Borderlands 2’s DLC, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty. Despite the fan-reception to the character being all positive, and her survival after the DLC’s ending, she hasn’t been seen or heard from since. It’s a real shame, as Captain Scarlett provides the series with some of its core strengths when it comes to characters.

Captain Scarlett is a space pirate, which in itself is pretty cool. Not only that, but she’s terribly forgetful, can’t help but tell the truth and be honest, but also loves to double-cross and be wholly untrustworthy. She has all the imperfections that make her a perfect Vault Hunter.
