Borderlands is a series that has its fair share of annoying characters, and it's completely intentional. With the world of Pandora being overrun with Bandits and Psychos, it's no surprise that some characters might be a little too loud and obnoxious. Across a multitude of Borderlands games, we've assessed who we deem to be the most annoying and frustrating, whether that comes from the things they say or the things they do. Check out who we consider to be pretty annoying, and why the population on Pandora might just agree.

Most Heartbreaking Deaths in the Borderlands Series

The Borderlands games might be known for their humor and loot, but there's still plenty of heartbreak and seriousness when a main character dies.

The characters listed below are not annoying based on their performances, but instead, based on their intentional character interactions and actions. Therefore, these characters are designed to frustrate players and annoy the people around them, instead of being a critique on the writing and performances.

Ava

A Child Who Has Yet to Learn of Responsibility and Consequences

  • Featured in: Borderlands 3

It's always hard to like child characters, as they always seem to end up on the same path. They hate authority, disrespect adults who just want the best for them, and genuinely just get themselves into trouble that results in fatal consequences for the people who try to save them. Ava is a textbook example of all of these traits, and it's Ava's disobedience that results in the death of a beloved character, making it hard for audiences and other characters to forgive her because she just wouldn't listen.

Ava is pretty angsty, and it's understandable that she might vent such frustrations. After all, she's just a young kid who has learned to survive on her own, so when someone tries to help her and claim she has an extremely important destiny as a Siren, it's only natural that she'd freak out about it. However, while it's understandable for Ava's personality and actions to be pretty annoying, they never seem to earn closure, and she's rewarded for her faults with cool powers.

Krieg

A Split-Personality Psycho That Hits Himself and Spouts Nonsense

  • Featured in: Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3

Krieg is a loveable Bandit Psycho who joined the Vault Hunters in Borderlands 2 as a playable character, and he's so much fun to be around. However, despite the joys of Krieg's character and his gameplay, some frustrating elements can make him pretty annoying. Firstly, his dialogue is nothing but madness, and while other characters might engage in seriousness, Krieg is more interested in shouting about scalps, blood, murder, and just other random bouts of violence. This can be funny for the audience, but for people around Krieg, they might find him pretty annoying and scary.

Even outside of his dialogue, Krieg might annoy players with his aggressive melee-based playstyle in which he hits everything with his Buzzaxe, but to make his Buzzaxe deal more damage, you need to add elements of risk. Some of Krieg's skills mean he can take friendly fire, or even punch himself in the face on repeat, making him fairly annoying to play as when you just want to shoot and stab enemies.

Patricia Tannis

Inappropriate, Lacking in Social Skills, But Tragically Insane

  • Featured in: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3

Patricia Tannis was employed by the Dahl corporation to find the Vault of Pandora, but the harshness of the planet's climate and natives drove her to madness, a madness that she could never break from. Patricia developed a very interesting personality, in which she became void of all emotion to protect her psyche. Patricia's words cut deep because she doesn't seem to realize her complete voidance of social skills, which can make her pretty annoying to interact with when she's either insulting, flirting, or just straight up being creepy.

Patricia's a victim of Pandora, so much of her personality is entirely understandable, and even with her tendencies, she's still extremely smart and reliable to have around. She's awkward, cares more about science than people, and cracks jokes when she probably shouldn't. It's an odd mix of charming and annoying, but we wouldn't have it any other way for Dr. Tannis.

Handsome Jack

The Smug CEO of Hyperion Who Will Taunt and Kill to Get His Way

  • Featured in: Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Handsome Jack wasn't always this way. In fact, he used to be a pretty meek guy who worked as an engineer for Hyperion. Yet, with a bit of gumption, Jack was able to take control of the company and dedicate its resources to making Pandora inhabitable in a world without Bandits, Psychos, and Vault Hunters. Handsome Jack frustrates Vault Hunters because he views himself to be the hero of his own story, but his arrogant persona makes him so funny and hard to hate, like how he's giving a threatening speech while eating peanuts, or boasting about Butt-Stallion, his unicorn made of pure diamonds.

Handsome Jack will take any opportunity to gloat into the ears of Vault Hunters, and loves to bring sadistic misery to the natives of Pandora. He's a murderer, a fascist, and just genuinely not a good guy, so bringing him to justice might be extremely satisfying, especially when he's so annoying that he literally tries to bribe the Vault Hunters into killing themselves.

Captain Scarlett

A Pirate Who Loves to Betray People and Pretend She Did Nothing Wrong

  • Featured in: Borderlands 2

Captain Scarlett is a pirate of Pandora who seeks the Lost Treasure of the Sands, and aboard her skiff, she recruits and betrays anyone naive enough to believe that she'll split the booty. Captain Scarlett is pretty funny as a character, as she has one singular gimmick, which is to pretend she won't betray you, then betray you, and then repeat the cycle over and over again as if it's the first time she's done it.

It's pretty funny each time, but it can also be pretty annoying, especially in deadly situations when it's just the Vault Hunter and Captain Scarlett, and she's still trying to betray the only people around. Captain Scarlett isn't entirely dangerous, but she's not the most piratey-pirate, and it's a shame she hasn't popped up to annoy the next generation of Vault Hunters with her cycle of betrayal.

Troy Calypso

Half of a Twin, Who Follows His Sister and Her Leeching Powers

  • Featured in: Borderlands 3

Troy is the weaker twin to Tyreen, and because of that, he needs to rely on her like he's the runt of the litter. Troy always seems to cower behind his sister, desperate for a smidge of her power, and only gloating when he knows his battle has been won. He's sheepish, arrogant, and always desperate for a new power high that makes him very annoying as an antagonist that you can't wait to beat.

Troy is dangerous and unhinged, and despite using other people to get what he wants, he's not against the pleasures of seeing other people suffer at his hand. What makes Troy even more annoying isn't just his textbook villainy, but his livestream persona, in which he, along with his sister, loves to stream their evil actions to the Children of the Vault, which makes his entire personality insufferable, and you simply can't unsubscribe.

Tyreen Calypso

The Other Half, Who Leads a Cult That Wishes to Open Pandora

  • Featured in: Borderlands 3

Tyreen Calypso is a Siren who has the Phaseleech ability, which basically allows her to absorb the lifeforce of anyone around her, including other Sirens. Her ability is truly evil, and the fact that she's leeched off of Lilith shows that there's no end or loyalty to her reign, and her evil conquest of the whole universe shows her barbarianism and entitlement at play.

What makes Tyreen annoying isn't just her evil motivations and how many people she's hurt, but how she makes it her personality. Tyreen is focused on opening the Great Vault, which is Pandora itself, for the sole goal of more power, all the while, she's live-streaming everything she does to be genuinely just pretty obnoxious and annoying with her smug personality and quirky words.

Claptrap

The Most Annoying and Lonely Robot to Ever Live

  • Featured in: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 3, Borderlands 4

Claptrap is the definition of polarizing, as some people love him, and some people hate him. While audiences are more divided on their love of Claptrap, it seems that anyone on Pandora who interacts with him wants either Claptrap dead or themselves dead to spare themselves from Claptrap's voice. He screams when he talks, he doesn't stop talking, and he always believes that he's in the right and that everyone should do what he says.

While Claptrap is harmless, he can be fairly annoying, so much so that Gearbox Software added an option to entirely mute Claptrap in Borderlands 4. Claptrap's entire product line was even destroyed simply because Handsome Jack found them annoying, so that's a pretty clear indication that Claptrap wins when it comes to being the most annoying Borderlands character. Through Claptrap's ignorance and refusal to accept the consequences of his actions, he's managed to get a lot of people killed, and every time he gets hurt, he always finds a way to blame someone else.
