Boruto Anime Is Set To Return

Studio Pierrot Confirms Production Of Boruto Part 2

As many fans of the Boruto series know, the anime has been on a hiatus for quite some time now. The Boruto anime first started broadcasting back in 2017, and stopped in late May of 2023. Since then, fans have been left with no update on the future of the anime, until now.

As a huge reveal to Boruto fans, the Studio Pierrot website has posted that Part 2 of the Boruto anime has been confirmed, which is major news. This major reveal comes after almost 2 years of wait.

On the studio Pierrot Website, fans can now see the following message displayed on the Boruto page:

“A second part has been confirmed!”

More details will definitely come out concerning the anime return, but fans will have to be patient for now!

When Will the Boruto Anime Return?

No Confirmed Date Yet, But It Will Likely Not Return This Year

While it seems the anime’s return has been confirmed, no release date has been given to the fans yet, and a release window isn't clear either. That’s unfortunate for fans as, despite 2 years of wait, they still don’t know when the series is returning.

It’s unclear if production has started, but it is highly likely that it hasn't. It is highly likely that the Boruto anime will take some time to return. Even if an announcement is made this year, which hasn't been the case so far, the anime is definitely not going to be out anytime soon. Fans should definitely tune in for more information from Studio Pierrot on the matter, but at the very least, fans should work under the assumption that it won't be back before 2026.

Why Did The Boruto Anime Go On a Hiatus?

There are probably many reasons that led to the Boruto anime going on hiatus. Based on what animators have said, it could be in large parts due to its massive filler episode count, which didn’t make it very interesting for animators to work on.

However, filler episodes are almost inevitable for a weekly anime. That said, it could definitely be toned down. Many fans are hoping for the Boruto anime to become seasonal instead of weekly, which would solve the issue, but no such thing has been announced yet, so fans will have to wait.

Where To Watch Boruto?

Available on Crunchyroll

The Boruto anime, despite its long hiatus, still has 293 episodes out, albeit a lot of them are filler episodes. Nevertheless, this is a lot of content to delve into while waiting for Part 2 of the anime to drop. The Boruto anime can be found on Crunchyroll.

Fans who can’t wait for the anime return can instead delve into the manga, which is far ahead in the story after a major timeskip. The manga can instead be found on Manga Plus to read with its monthly releases.
