The Hokage are some of the most iconic characters in the entire Naruto series. Kishimoto created the Hokage as proud and respectable leaders of Konoha, and had each of them define an era of their own. The most important and beloved Hokage of all in the entirety of Naruto is, of course, Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, and the protagonist of the main series. Naruto Uzumaki became Hokage in Chapter 700 of the manga, which is its very end.

Unfortunately, fans did not get to see much of Naruto's reign in the original series. However, in Boruto, fans did get glimpses of him here and there. It is safe to say that Naruto spent quite some time as Hokage of the village, but it appears that his reign is now at its end already. It is time for fans to bid farewell to their beloved Seventh Hokage forever, because it is highly unlikely that he will lead the village ever again. Of course, Naruto is not going to die, but it is time for young blood to now take over Konoha and lead by example.

Naruto Went Through Many Hardships To Become The Seventh Hokage Of Konoha

Naruto Seventh Hokage Was The Most Legendary Ninja In History boruto
  • Naruto Had To Earn Kurama's Trust And Respect
  • Naruto's Hardships Shaped Him

The entirety of the Naruto story sees Naruto Uzumaki battle multiple hardships to achieve his goal. Naruto wanted to become the Hokage of the village, and he most certainly achieved that by the end. In reality, Naruto's goal is deeper than just becoming Hokage. The reason why Naruto becomes the Hokage is to earn the acknowledgement of all the others around him. In other words, Naruto simply craved the attention and respect of the people around him. He already achieved this in big part after the conclusion of the Pain battle. The entirety of Konoha, which once despised him, hailed him as their hero, and in the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto earned the recognition of not just his own village, but also of the entire world. He became a hero like no other, which is why a few years after the conclusion of the war, he eventually rose and became the Seventh Hokage of the village.

It goes without saying that to achieve this, Naruto had to go through several hardships. He had to conquer his inner demon, which was his biggest enemy. He also had to conquer the hatred in his own hatred, and of course, he had to bring his best friend, Sasuke, back to the village. All these things shaped Naruto to be the man that fans know him to be, and they also made him the brilliant character that he is. Without these hardships, Naruto would never have become the Seventh Hokage, and he wouldn't have become the hero who saved the world.

It is also why Naruto's story is as beloved as it is. His journey from becoming a nameless boy to the greatest Hokage in history is absolutely incredible and goes on to inspire the next generation of ninjas as a whole.

Naruto Might Never Reign As The Seventh Hokage Again

Naruto Should've Prepared The World Better To Face The Greatest Threat boruto

While it goes without saying that Naruto is the best Hokage of all, and also the strongest one, he will most likely never reign again as the Seventh Hokage. This is because Naruto Uzumaki was incapacitated by Kawaki when he was sealed away at the end of the first part of Boruto. It has been three years since, and Naruto has been declared dead already. Of course, fans know that he is not dead, but it matters little, because Konoha already has an interim Hokage in Shikamaru.

Right now, Shikamaru leads as the unofficial 8th Hokage of the village, but it won't be long before there is a real 8th Hokage. Naruto's return doesn't seem to be close at this point in time. In fact, fans know that when Kawaki and Boruto fight, Naruto is still sealed away. In other words, he won't return before the end of the Boruto series. Konoha might already have had its next Hokage before the return of Naruto, which means that he will likely not get the chance to reign again after his return.

Konoha Needs A New Hokage, And There Are Already Candidates

Shikamaru Could Become The Permanent Hokage boruto
  • Shikamaru Could Become The Permanent Hokage
  • Konohamaru Could Become The Real 8th Hokage

Konoha desperately needs a new Hokage. While Shikamaru is serving as the unofficial heir to the Hokage, it must be kept in mind that it has been three years since Naruto was sealed. The village can't be in this position of uncertainty for long, and that is why Kishimoto has been highlighting this time and again. It won't be long before either Shikamaru is made the official heir to the Hokage of the village, or someone else comes in his place.

It is possible that Shikamaru will be expelled from his position for collaborating with Boruto, as fans already know. Once that happens, Konoha will most likely elect a new Hokage, and this person is likely going to be none other than Konohamaru, who is the best candidate at this point in time. Of course, there are others from the Naruto era, such as Sakura, who would make for a better fit. Even bringing back Kakashi would be way better. However, if there's one thing that Boruto has proven time and again, it is that it doesn't care at all about the old generation and pretends that they don't exist.

As such, the next Hokage is likely going to be someone from the newer generation, such as Konohamaru. It would also allow for Konohamaru's dream of becoming the Hokage to be fully realized.

Konohamaru Could Be The Eighth, While Sarada Might Be The Ninth Hokage

Konohamaru Could Be The Eighth While Sarada Might Be The Ninth Hokage boruto

Given the way the story is set up, Konohamaru will become the Eighth Hokage of Konoha officially, and he will eventually be followed by Sarada, who already wields strength great enough to become the Hokage. Sarada will eventually gain a lot of maturity, and in a few years, she will become the Ninth Hokage of the village, and that much goes without saying.

When Naruto does return, the series will most likely be at its end, and by that time, Sarada will have become the next Hokage. In order for her dream to be realized, Naruto has to cast his own dream aside, and that is quite a conundrum. Therefore, the best approach that the writer will take here is to have Konohamaru become the 8th, and then Sarada become the 9th.

Naruto has already lived his dream as the 7th Hokage, and when he comes back, he won't be the Hokage anymore. As unfortunate as it is, fans should say their goodbyes to Naruto Uzumaki as the Seventh Hokage and admit that the next generation will officially take over in Two Blue Vortex.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the sequel to the original Boruto series, written by Mikio Ikemoto, and supervised by Masashi Kishimoto. The series follows the journey of Boruto Uzumaki, 3 years after the events of Omnipotence struck in the story. Boruto must now work to save to world from the perils it faces while dealing with his brother, Kawaki. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 30 is set for its official release on January 20, 2026. The release time of the chapter is 10 AM EST/ 3 PM UTC. As always, fans can read the chapter officially for free on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
