This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are two of the most powerful characters in the Naruto universe, but more than that, they're the most iconic characters that Kishimoto has come up with. The influence of these two legends is such that it goes beyond their own series, inspiring countless other series and characters across various forms of media. It is for this reason that Naruto and Sasuke are as loved as they are today, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see them do what they do best when the time to fight comes.
Boruto: Kishimoto Just Confirmed Sasuke's Next Major Power Up After Return
Sasuke has a major power-up incoming, and it will make him stronger than ever in Boruto.
Unfortunately, both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are no longer around in Boruto. As fans are aware already, Naruto and Sasuke are both incapacitated in different ways. Naruto Uzumaki is sealed away in the dimension of Daikokuten, and Sasuke Uchiha, on the other hand, is trapped in a Tree, which was down to a bite from a Claw Grime. Fans have eagerly been waiting for these two legendary figures to return to the story and play an active role in the defense of the Shinobi world. However, as things stand, fans will not be able to see their favorite characters anytime soon and for the time being, it's best to bid farewell to them.
Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha Are Not Coming Back Anytime Soon
Naruto Will Remain Sealed And Sasuke Won't Be Saved
- The Shinju need to be beaten first
- After the fall of Shinju, Sasuke can be freed
While fans will always hope for Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha to show up in Boruto soon enough, the fact is that they won't be back anytime soon. The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga is still in its initial stages, and the first main villain group has not been beaten yet. The return of Sauske and Naruto is directly tied to them in different ways, so unless they are beaten, Konoha's legendary duo cannot return.

Boruto: Kishimoto Has Finally Confirmed Naruto's True Heir In A New Ninja
Naruto's heir is not Boruto, but a completely unexpected character.
When it comes to Naruto Uzumaki, he's been sealed away by Kawaki, and when he fights Boruto, he clearly implies that Naruto is still sealed. In other words, Naruto won't be back before the climax of Boruto, which will be the Kawaki vs Boruto fight. Meanwhile, Sasuke Uchiha will be back after Hidari is defeated, and that seems a bit easier to accomplish, given that the Shinju will most certainly be defeated soon.
However, even then, it'll at least take up to a year for Sasuke to return, at the earliest. Right now, Mamushi of the Shinju is the center of attention, and it'll take anywhere from 5-10 chapters for his arc to wrap up in Boruto. After Mamushi, the focus will likely shift to Hidari and Jura, which is when Hidari could fall, but that whole arc would also take around 5-10 chapters to end. So, Sasuke definitely won't be back in 2026 either.

It Will Be Years Before Naruto And Sasuke Are Back
Fans Will Need To Get Used To It
The fact that fans need to deal with is that Naruto and Sasuke will not return this year, or even the year after. It will be years before they are back. In the case of Sasuke Uchiha, a 2027 return is a big possibility. However, as far as Naruto goes, fans might have to wait even longer, since the whole battle between Kawaki and Boruto would need to happen first.
I realize that Boruto started as a sequel to Naruto, but due to Naruto's massive presence, it's been a pretty tough road to travel. Boruto has finally emerged as a proper protagonist in his own right. But will he be a hero on the same level as his father? Or maybe even surpass him? To be honest... I'm not entirely sure what'll happen, myself. That'll depend on the support of our readers, so please keep on cheering for us. —Ikemoto
