Summary
- Nine Tails back in Boruto with Himawari, an Uzumaki, disappointingly close to Naruto's family.
- Decision to make Himawari a Jinchūriki opens up possibilities for character development.
- Boruto Two Blue Vortex at exciting peak, ending on cliffhanger before decisive battle.
The Nine Tails, also known as Kurama, is a key character in Naruto and many things have happened because of it. When the Nine Tails died, many fans didn't believe that the story would simply continue without it.
And, in fact, it didn't. Recently, the Nine Tails has been brought back in Boruto — inside Himawari Uzumaki, Naruto's daughter and Boruto's younger sister. While it is good that the Nine Tails is back in action, it is disappointing to see it inside someone so close to Naruto.
Naruto Uzumaki's Kurama Evolution, Explained
Uzumaki Naruto's hard work and dedication finally amounted to assimilating with Kurama. How far have their evolutions come?
Once Again, An Uzumaki Is The Host of Kurama
The first known Jinchūriki was Mito Uzumaki, Tsunade's grandmother — while we don't know much about the relationship between Mito and Kushina, we do know that Kushina was chosen as her successor to become the next host of the Nine Tails due to her unique chakra.
It has also been revealed that, at least according to Mito, love is the only way to tame Kurama. This may be connected to the split of the Otsutsuki clan centuries ago, since Asura was chosen over his older brother because he used ninshu for peace — Asura Otsutsuki is the ancestor of both the Senju and Uzumaki clans.
While Tobi was able to control the Nine-Tails for a time, and Minato Namikaze also became the Jinchūriki for a while during the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kurama was finally sealed inside Naruto at the cost of his parents' lives — then, once again, Nine-Tails was once again sealed within an Uzumaki.
Boruto had the chance to tell a different story, and make someone else become the next Jinchūriki — perhaps even someone unrelated to the Uzumaki clan, or at least indirectly related to the clan.
We Could At Least Have Someone Outside Naruto's Close Family
If the authors want to tell a story in which the Nine Tails and the Uzumaki clan are deeply related, they could at least have chosen someone outside of Naruto's close family. Given that there have been many marriages between Senjus and Uzumakis, they could even have chosen someone from the Senju clan.
While choosing Himawari instead of Boruto was a good, it is still a letdown that the Nine Tails has become something of a "family affair" in Naruto's family, especially since Himawari doesn't need Kurama inside her to be a great character.
There's A Good Side To It, Though
Well, simply complaining about the decisions of the creators is not going to get anyone anywhere. There's actually a good side to this: fortunately, Boruto wasn't even more overpowered by becoming a Jinchūriki.
And since she is already a Jinchūriki, there are many more possibilities for Himawari as a character now. It would be great if Kurama could be used to help Himawari awaken her Hyuuga powers. The Hyuuga clan, while good, has been much less explored than the Uchiha and the Otsutsuki, so it would be nice to see additions to the story that could make the Hyuuga clan more interesting.
In Chapter 10, even Nine Tails itself doesn't understand why a kernel has sprouted within Himawari. It could have something to do with her once knocking Kurama out accidentally with the Byakugan, it could be related o the chakra she inherited from Naruto, or it could be something else.
However, death is not eternal for us Biju. Even if our flesh or soul perishes, over time a kernel of us will sprout somewhere and we will manage to return to life. (...) No one knows how long it will take, or where it might sprout. Much less that it would be inside his daughter and this soon... The universe is full of mysteries. You may have been born inheriting a sliver of my chakra or this was your destiny, brought into being by the Uzumaki and Hyuga blood that flows within you. Well, since it's already happened, the how doesn't matter.
— Nine Tails in Boruto TBV Chapter 10
The story does tease that this could be further explored, so there might even be a proper explanation for it. If they use Himawari to explain even more about Nine Tails, it would make up for putting this plot in the middle of Naruto's family again.
Boruto Two Blue Vortex Is At A Thrilling Point
Boruto Two Blue Vortex reached a peak in Chapter 21, ending on a cliffhanger right before Boruto and Jura begin a decisive battle. Koji previously told Boruto that he shouldn't try to face Jura right now, since all future possibilities point to Boruto dying, so there are many reasons to be excited for the next chapter.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 22 will be released in the US on May 20, 2025, on MANGA Plus.
