The following article contains major spoilers for Naruto and Boruto.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is heading in an interesting direction, particularly with Sarada Uchiha, Boruto Uzumaki, and Kawaki Uzumaki. Recently, another character underwent unexpected development that could prove promising in the future. From the start of Boruto, many fans have wondered if Boruto would eventually become a Jinchuriki. What was delivered, however, turned out to be very different from what they expected.

Turns out that Himawari Uzumaki is the new Jinchuriki. She discovered it by accident when Jura found her while searching for Naruto and tracking his chakra signature. With her potential powers as a Jinchuriki, Himawari may be a key character later in the series.

Himawari Uzumaki is Kurama's Jinchuriki

In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 10, it was revealed that Himawari Uzumaki is the current Jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails. Her "awakening" was sudden and unexpected for most readers, especially since Kurama sacrificed himself in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Kurama explained that Bijū don't stay dead forever, but he also admitted that it happened sooner than he expected.

However, death is not eternal for us Biju. Even if our flesh or soul perishes, over time a kernel of us will sprout somewhere and we will manage to return to life. (...) No one knows how long it will take, or where it might sprout. Much less that it would be inside his daughter and this soon... The universe is full of mysteries.

— Nine Tails in Boruto TBV Chapter 10

Apparently, even he doesn't understand why Himawari was chosen as a Jinchuriki, but he teased that she might have inherited part of Naruto's chakra. This could also explain why the Nine-Tails seems to have an affinity for the Uzumaki clan, though there's still a possibility that Himawari was chosen for another reason. The revelation also made fans wonder if Himawari knocked out Naruto and the Nine-Tails once just by chance, or if this is related to her destiny as a Jinchuriki. Anyway, the story will likely use Himawari to further explore Kurama and perhaps other Tailed Beasts and may potentially solve the mystery of how Jinchuriki are born or chosen.

Could Himawari be the Ten Tails?

Another possibility for the story is that Himawari is not only the Jinchuriki of the Nine Tails but also the Ten Tails. In the original story, other Tailed Beasts shared their chakra with Naruto, so it's possible that Himawari has inherited a sliver of their chakra as well, which means she might have an affinity for them too. If death is not eternal for Biju, the Ten Tails will also eventually return.

Thus, many fans now speculate that Himawari is the Ten Tails. This would make Jura's hunt for her and Naruto even more understandable, since Jura's template was Code's Ten Tails. While this may not be the most likely theory for many, it certainly has a lot of potential.

Himawari May Awaken Massive Powers

Himawari will be the first known Jinchuriki to also have awakened the Byakugan, so there are lots of possibilities for her. It's the perfect opportunity for the story to finally explore this kekkei genkai, which was under-exploited in the original series. As far as we know, the Byakugan doesn't evolve like the Sharingan, but there could be something like an inverse Tenseigan or something else. She may even surpass Naruto.

It’s not just the Byakugan—Himawari also opens the door to a deeper exploration of the Hyuga clan. Furthermore, we can get even more powers related to the Tailed Beasts. Since Himawari also has Otsutsuki ancestry, there might be developments about it too. As the Ten Tails, Himawari would be a major ally against the Otsutsuki clan, which will likely introduce a new overpowered villain soon. She may even become stronger than Boruto or Sarada. There's a lot of potential underlying the revelation that she is the Jinchuriki.

Where to Read Boruto Two Blue Vortex

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the continuation of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which is the sequel to the original manga. Two Blue Vortex takes place two years after NNG, but due to Eida's Omnipotence, everyone thinks that Boruto killed Naruto and Hinata. They also think that Kawaki is Naruto's son while Boruto was adopted—in sum, Boruto and Kawaki swapped places, and everyone sees Boruto as an enemy. Meanwhile, Code's Claw Grimes brought the Shinju Clones to life.

Boruto: TBV is serialized in Shueisha's V-JUMP magazine, which follows a monthly schedule. Chapters are also released in Japan and internationally on Shonen Jump+ and MANGA Plus, respectively. The series is available in English and many other languages on MANGA Plus.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 23 is set to be released on June 19, 2025.
